If you have completed 10k and would like to explore running a bit further, there is a warm welcome waiting for you on the Fun Beyond 10k and Race Support Forum. Like the other forums, we have a range of ages and abilities and we are just exploring how far we can/want to go. We have a friendly weekly chat where we share stories about our runs, equipment, training plans, races, injuries/rehab, holidays, dramas -anything really.
We also have weekly “Pom Poms” feature through which we support people who have entered races.
Most of us progressed through C25k and Bridge to 10k and, when we were faced with the “what shall I do next?” question, decided to look at extending distance - and surprised ourselves! For those tempted by bling, we have lots of shiny (virtual) badges to issue, starting at 10 miles (16.09k).
Just drop in and say hello; we would be delighted to see you.

Thanks Sandra; we worked through this with the help of our admin and other friends on Bridge to 10k ….everyone is behind this effort to help people run a bit a further if they would like to. Team work 🙂
I felt like such an imposter when I started posting over on Fun Beyond, but everyone was so friendly and helpful that I was so glad I did! It’s a great place to continue running longer distances or get support with events of any length…Ive had loads of pom poms waved for me! You guys do a brilliant job and I can whole heartedly recommend a trip over there for any of our runners here, even if you’re just thinking about a race/longer run. ❤️
Totally agree with Beachcomber66 . I am such an imposter, and a real square peg in a round hole. I love races, but I really don’t like running fast (except for Coach B’s intervals runs which are a boatload of fun), I couldn’t give two hoots if someone passes me - I even slow down to let them go by! As long as I get my bling. 🏅😍
But running and racing are fantastic for that very reason, we can make them as individual as we want to. So yes, pop across to Fun Beyond 10k and see for yourself guys. The vast majority of us were in the same indecisive boat as you - and look we were are now! (In my case, redoing C25K just for fun! 😅)
I have done 10K in the past, but not for some time, although I do around 7K from time to time. Am hoping to get back to 10K by running along canal towpath- it is pretty hilly where I live! My problem though is finding the block of time needed to complete 10K. I would need 1.5-2hours realistically. I would like to try some 10K road races, but they seem to have a cut off time of 1.5hours around here🙁, not sure I could guarantee that. I like to run in the morning, but don’t have the time to run for a couple of hours then😬.
I once inadvertently ran over 13K, when Strava had a breakdown and didn’t record nearly half my run. I was running and running, thinking surely I’ve run more than 8K by now😂.
All of which ramble is to say, I would love to run further (and indeed faster), but not there yet. Would be good to chat to others on the forum about how they manage time constraints on the distance they can run. So maybe Run Beyond is the place for me?
I will be 72 soon, so you are younger than me. I will pick up the “time to run” theme in this week’s weekly chat (tomorrow morning on Fun Beyond 10k etc ). I run three times per week. 2 of those runs are shorter distances (5 or 6k) and usually incorporate intervals. I use the Nike Run Club HM plan; there is a 10k version too, which MissUnderstanding brought to Bridge to 10k. The plan records your pace over each interval, which makes it easy to follow your progress week on week.
It is the long run(usually a slow run) which takes the time. I think lots of people who are working during the week use Sunday mornings for long runs, but work patterns vary of course. I use Monday, but I am really lucky as Iive a short walk from a walkway which borders the North Yorks Moors ….so there is no travel time involved. I fit a 10k run, warm and cool down walk, plus a cup of coffee at the walkway cafe into a couple of hours. If am running 10 miles it takes about two hours just for the run. Others are faster of course!
