I haven't posted for a while as I've been consolidating my 5k running... Just done my 7th along with 2 shorter runs a week and feeling so much better these days than when I started C25K back in April! My question is this.. I want to start increasing my runs soon and aim for a 10 next year. Is there a 10k equivalent of parkrun... You know, where you can do a mixture of running and walking if you need to? Or are 10k runs proper running all the way through? Sorry if it's a silly question 😬
10k parkrunning?: I haven't posted for a while... - Bridge to 10K
10k parkrunning?
Sounds like a great question to me 👍 I've also just reached the 5k mark and now regularly running this distance slowly but comfortably. I've no great need to go to 10k but obviously it's the next milestone distancr, so maybe some day 🤔
I think you can run/walk just about any 10k event if you want to, bearing in mind there is usually a cut off time. It's not as casual as a parkrun though, which may be more what you are looking for. Running clubs round me often stage their own events too, they are usually quite competitive affairs but that's very club specific I think! It might be worth asking around your local clubs to see what events they hold.
Having just done my first ever 10k race, I can confirm that there were very, very many people who chose to mix it up with a walk/run combo rather than keep going for the full 10k.
I think most 10k runs require you to enter, not just turn up and run, which is the joy of Parkrun.
No question is silly on the forum oldwheezer. I think there are always charity or organised 10k runs you can enter, but most you need to pay or raise funds. Nothing like Parkrun. I’ve decided to do juju’s magic plan to get to 10k and then join a club to run with others once a week in addition to my Parkruns .
I’m entering my first 10k race in a couple of weeks, and have picked one that calls itself a “fun run”. I’m hoping that’s going to be a fairly relaxed one, and it doesn’t state a cut off time. Perhaps ask people at your local Parkrun for suggestions of more relaxed local 10k events if you want to race but to not feel pressurised to go too fast or run it all?
Plenty of people go round a second time at parkrun after getting their timing card, or give it to a friend to hand in while you go round again.
I’m doing my first 10k run on 8th Sept, and if I get stuck I will walk, intend to have fun, you are doing this for you, remember that and good luck.
