Hello, well it is done! After a rough week, that was a hard one. I pushed myself a bit, but Ms Garmin kept me in a safe pace zone between 6:30 and 7:00min/km, so I could plan a bit better. Met a few nice people too. It was a beautiful place to run on the south side of Lake Ontario and all along the shore. It was very blustery so the white caps were quite high. It was a cold run (for me anyway๐) too with the temp around 2-3 degrees, feeling like 1 with the wind. But it was well organized with warm tents for registration and shirts etc plus all the vendors and snack stations. As I hoped, I ran to my planned pace with my watch and it allowed me to have a bit in the tank for a kick at the end. Myself and three others all finished in 1:06:49 (chip time - forgot to stop my watch until we ran through of course ๐) which I am happy with and is a PB too! More importantly, I was able to not do anything too daft and avoided hurting anything. The bling was nice too! Now after going to a Arcade Fire concert with my son this evening, I am truly spent. Will take at least a few days off to rest now. Thank you to everyone for the good advice and support!
Hamilton 10k done and dusted: Hello, well it... - Bridge to 10K
Hamilton 10k done and dusted
Congratulations on a great race Decker! Sounds like a beautiful place to run, too bad it wasn't a summer wind though. That would've been bitingly cold coming off the water! I see your fellow runners got to witness your pro running gloves, they'll be in hot demand now ๐. Great job on achieving a PB and getting some more bling to add to your growing collection. Sweet! Enjoy a much deserved rest.
Thanks Sask. Yes I really want to run there in the summer now. The path goes on for a nice ling stretch along the coast. Its ok - the cool weather was a new experience. And yes the pro gloves had to come too. Just waiting for the orders to roll in now!๐ I wasnโt expecting to get a PB, but things surprise you from time to time. Thank you kindly!
Whoop whoop look at that bling! It's a biggie and I love it ๐ค
A big well done Decker, you did it as we knew you would and many congrats on the PB. That's a great time ๐
I know what you mean about forgetting to stop your Garmin, I've done that a few times. It's all the excitement!
I bet you're already checking the next race ๐
Thank you IP, yes its a solid piece of happy, that bling!
Thanks again for your advice, the crowd does push you along, but this time i had the Garmin to check my pace and control it early on. It isnโt the first and wont be the last time I forget to switch it on or off! ๐ I wont even get into how I almost missed the entire park due to misunderstanding my Google map instructions๐
Eek that would have been pressure! Glad you made it to the right spot ๐
I forgot to stop mine this morning, whilst falling... sorry, climbing over a big wobbly gate! It did not even auto pause...the falling, obviously is like the way I run!!!
Oh no I hope you were ok Floss! I am terrible with climbing fences. When I was younger, sure, but now? ๐
Great run Decker, lovely bling too!
Congrats Decker. That sounds like a beautiful race and you did really well. Now enjoy your well deserved rest!
Congratulations - and what a lovely bit of bling too. The smile on your face says it all ๐
I did a similar thing with my Garmin at yesterdayโs Poppy Run, both in terms of keeping pace and forgetting to stop it. I left mine running for a lot longer though! ๐คฆ๐ผโโ๏ธ
Great stuff mate! At Canada temperature as well, let's not forget that
I went to Hamilton once, back in '86 but for the life of me l can't remember what for That was before my running days and early starts. Beautiful part of the world, Ontario, enjoy your future runs!
Thanks MR and thanks for the good advice too. It made me very conscious of not damaging anything! It was cool, not Prairie cold, but cool enough for me. I feel so bad for the marathon runners. Its cold and pouring rain all day there today. Now that is a test of the spirit!
Hamilton is a very nice place to run I must say. Iโd like to get back there is the summer months. There is so much of Canada Iโd love to run through now๐
Congratulations Decker. Love the bling. Well done for sticking to your plan. Enjoy the concert.
Thank you Annie. And thanks so much for your run advice earlier. Especially around the sticking to a plan. It really helped me on my much smaller scale ๐
That's a great run decker, well done! Fab time and lovely bling, love it!
Thank you kindly doyle, it was a good run in a really nice place too. I started getting mesmerized by the waves crashing in๐
Well done Decker..that sounds like an exhilarating run with fabulous views.
Great time and one very happy chap I imagine. So pleased for you.Enjoy your concert and put your feet up for a few days.๐xxx
Well done and a lovely bit of bling to treasure ๐๐
Really well done Decker, especially on the PB - nice medal too! Rest up well and enjoy your concert this evening. (I'm afraid I haven't heard of Arcade Fire?? Hope they're good!) ๐
Very well done... and great bling.... You are getting too fast for me now x
Great time
Thank you Floss. Without your help I would have likely given up on 5 by now! ๐
You are doing wonderfully! Go you!
I had to encourage myself...this morning.. sinking into the mud, soaking wet and then falling over the farm gate.. I did think..hmmm... am I loopy?
What are you going to go for next!!!
You are not loopy just wonderfully adventurous! This run had no mud, was fully paved and quite flat so it made going much easier. I may look at some short trail running in the spring. After my first 5k trail run knocked me back so far, Iโve avoided them since, but they look like fun too, running through the woods and puddles
Well done Decker ...thereโs no stopping you now is there?!!
Brilliant! Very well done to you Gorgeous setting, great time! One day, I keep telling myself, one day that'll be me!
Great work mate! Sounds like an awesome venue, great time too! You can't beat a good gig to finish off the day, enjoy your well earned rest.
