I noticed on FB that our local club were having a 'friendly' 5k run today, to start their winter race series, and I thought that perhaps I might go. I dithered and faffed about this morning, umming and ahhing trying to decide, until eventually hubby said I should go and he would come and bring doggie along too. We arrived at the village hall, I said a few hellos and paid for entering the race, as a non member. Folk seemed very friendly and soon it was time to start. I ran at the back most of the way, only overtaking one lady and it felt hard work due to the hilly route (road) and windy conditions but at least the sun was shining 😎 It was an out and back route so before I had got anywhere near the turn around point folk were running back past me! Despite being a small club it was very well organised with route markings, marshalls and a timing system (clever handheld gadget!). I plodded on got to the turn around point and set off back up the road, phew quite undulating😬 Nice views and sunshine kept me going until I eventually got to the finish. All the runners were gathered at the finish and clapped me and the other lady who came in a few minutes after me. How kind! Finally drinks and cake ☕🍩 and chat. Talked about the series of winter races, first one next weekend, and then I decided that I might as well join the club (only £1 each race for members). So how about that....never thought I would be a member of a running club!

Oh, and I forgot to say.....new PB too 31.18!! Very pleased with that 😁

Good for you! Training partners too which is a boon over the dark winter nights 😃👍

Excellent! How good to hear that they are a friendly bunch :) Good to have people to train with over the winter, as Wobble says. And a PB and cake - result!

I will let you into a secret.......I am hoping to run their 10 mile forest trail race in February!! The monthly races Nov-Feb gradually build up distance so hopefully I will manage.

This sounds like a lovely bunch of people and I'm impressed with your target of 10miles. Enjoy your training with them. :-)

I was very pleased with the time. It felt hard work so I suppose I was pushing myself more than usual, a benefit of running with others (Skye&Lochalsh running club)
