Holiday diary - Run 2 Canal run (a first for me πŸ˜€)

After about four hours of driving (Carlisle to the Midlands) in thick fog, sunshine and very heavy down pours ......doggie and me definitely needed a RUN!! I decided to try a canal run - a new experience for me. The Canicross equipment was essential because the path was not fenced in places including right next to a busy main road! There were also tempting wildlife to chase - ducks, swans and even a big heron! It was lovely running along the water looking at the boats chugging along and the lock keepers at work - all very interesting. It was very warm so Squiggs enjoyed several dips in the canal! Once again Runkeeper was silenced and I just ran for fun not thinking about pace or distance. In fact I ran 7.63 km, another longish run and I felt good πŸ˜„

I ran with my sister's springer spaniel along a canal in France last year. My sister was with us, but walking, so I soon pulled ahead. The poor dog didn't know what to do and kept running back and forth between us at first. She jumped up at me to try and get me to go back. In the end she decided to stay with me and we had a fantastic romp. Good exercise for all involved. Sister was very pleased to see us when we finally came back, as she's not used to her dog disappearing off into the distance. I ran a couple of times with the springer on my own aswell - she was great!

Yes, Springers just LOVE running - ideal running buddy! πŸΆπŸƒπŸΌ Squiggs rather likes running off into the forest after birds and deer so using the Canicross belt means I don't have to worry about him disappearing, especially in a new environment, and we both get plenty of exercise!

Mine loves running on his terms! Getting a bit fat and lazy and a little older so he is not so keen on long walks any more but still great fun!

Brilliant running in a beautiful location. And what a dog! :) Vaguely fond of springers myself as you might have gathered!

That is the very lovely Harry - or Big H as Poppypug likes to call him!

A towpath was where I did my first C25K run (with Welsh Springer obvs) We have to keep her out of the water on that one to avoid disturbing water voles (although I do let her in where there's stone both sides - no water voles feeding or living just there) Sometimes wonder why I bother as other people don't :-(

But there are others where she can go in :-) Unlike her English Springer friend she's no good at actually catching anything.

Oh, that is a good point about water voles. He only went to the edge for a quick drink (a Springer who doesn't swim!πŸ˜‰) so hopefully didn't upset any wildlife.

The only thing Harry could catch is a cold!

Yes, great fun running in different places a very different experience to walking a route. More intense? Focused? Can't really explain but different!
