Staying with aged parent in Somerset so ususl early morning run not really possible so yesterday I went in the late afternoon. I couldn't beleive how much harder it was and could barely manage 3k. It was much warmer, busier with cars and people and I felt seriously sluggish!
Hey ho, so be it. Back to normality soon and my 6am start times with more energy.

I tend to mix my times of running occasionally just so I know I can run whenever I want. If you want to join an event for example. You do need to think about hydration and when you eat and what you eat a bit more though.
The number of factors that can change a run is just huge.... for me two biggies are whether I've taken my Hay Fever tablet, and whether I've actually eaten something - the other week I was pretty much at a standstill and felt there was no energy in my system, I suspect because my metabolism was still in sleep mode.... heat is another - and the surface makes a difference too. I did a Treadmill Run the other night, 7.5K in just under an hour, and I was dripping by the end of it - a lot more than normal, probably because I was running indoors where it was warmer and without the passing air current to cool me down! Put it this way, I'm going to stick with outdoors unless weather or other circumstances dictate otherwise.... I certainly didn't find it an easy option.....
I agree, I find it much harder running in the afternoon especially when my day starts at 6.30 in the summer season (we have a B&B). So by the afternoon I am often feeling tired and sluggish, as you said. Coincidentally I am visiting my elderly mum in Somerset in a couple of weeks! I really enjoy running somewhere different.
Goodness you must be really busy with B&B and fit in running too. I'm hoping to try the Taunton parkrun next time I visit aged parent as it looked a nice circuit and I could walk there probably. Yes, I liked finding new routes to run while visiting and running helps me cope with the sorting out things for mum.
Ahh, what a good idea! There are no Park Runs near here (3 hours drive is the nearest!), so trying out the Taunton one would be really good. I have heard such great things about Park Runs. I will look it up on the internet. Thanks Valcart I hope things are ok with your mum, it is a worry as they get older isn't it.
