Two cities in less than a week! This is my local one. We’re having building works done at home so I needed to hot desk(ie use a friend’s living room!) for some online training. That meant I was near the harbour side after two hours of zoom so I took advantage of the sunny weather to get a quick loop in, “Quick” is used very loosely here! Both my Garmin and NRC wanted me doing a 3 mile/5k easy run. Perfect!
Well, perfect until I realised I’d forgotten to download the “It’s ok 5k” guided fun. Ironically, it was not ok to get it to work. Ah well-I had other podcast options and went for Radio 4’s “When it hits the fan” which is a favourite of mine. Coach B can come along next time!
This was a really nice run with a couple of annoying bits. I’m not used to so many pedestrians! There are a few places where you’re running around quite a busy shopping/eating district and people were walking staring at their phones totally oblivious to anyone trying to overtake them. I was way too overdressed. I wish I’d been in shorts and a t-shirt. Some of the ground was very hard to run on-cobbles are not fun! Part of the route was shut which meant running along a stinky busy road.
I really did enjoy myself though. I kept to an easy pace and had the same experience as Yesletsgo -surpringly fast! For me it’s almost certainly the effect of running on the flat when you’re always running on hills. I need tk come back here next time I’m having a pb attempt! The sunshine was lovely and it was worth getting hot and sweaty. There were some great views of the iconic colourful houses and some impressive birds (see picture). The run once again ended exactly outside a coffee shop, although to be fair, there are loads on this route so that’s less noteworthy!
I decided to reward myself with some salted nuts-I think sweating so much made me crave the salt. Sadly, there were none to be found in the posh supermarket I tried to find them in. Milk chocolate brazils were my best alternative!! It doesn’t matter that there was more chocolate than nut, does it? 🤣
Happy running everyone!

What a pretty town! It reminds me of a TV show I used to watch when my kids were small, Balamory! The downside is the people who just stop and stare when you want to run. My town is quite pretty too and on a sunny Saturday it is not the place for a 5k.
You're braver than me to run on cobbles, I don't even like walking on them
I wonder what was in the air today to propel us so quickly through our runs? We both had less challenging surfaces than normal but why don't we pat ourselves on the back and say that all this training is working. Enjoy your choccies, I mean healthy nut snacks 😂
🤣 at “healthy nut snacks”. I did very much enjoy them and I’d definitely buy them again. It would have to be on a run where they weren’t going in a pocket. With all that chocolate potentially melting, it could have been very messy!
I took the cobbles very carefully. Luckily there wasn’t a long section of them. I haven’t seen Balamory for years! That brings back memories!!!
This looks and sounds lovely - it must be fun to run in different locations. Well done for planning your time to fit a run in even if Coach B didn’t keep you company this time
Thank you! It’s a really nice part of the city. I will definitely do this run again. It seems to be very popular judging by everyone who was out! You might be glad to know Coach B came back this morning and I was glad of the company!
Thank you! It was such a lovely bonus run, with a bonus treat at the end! I’ll definitely be doing this one again. Maybe earlier in the morning to avoid the crowds!!
Well done MissUnderstanding on you run. I’m so used to running on my own now (apart from the odd park run ) I think I would struggle in a built up area and I have to say I would be wondering where all the hills are😂.
Thanks for sharing a brilliant post and super picture and as for the peanuts….well shake-and-run is right they always come with chocolate on them 🤣🤣🤣🥰x
🤣🤣🤣 I felt the same and I did miss the hills! It was nice to get some nods from fellow runners though! Here’s a closer picture of the bird. He was a great little poser!!!
🍏👏Absolutely loved this photo. So clever to get the bird in the foreground!! Well done on your impressive run Miss U especially on cobbles!! After all your recent hard work I can imagine why you enjoyed just running!!!! Fab run, fab post! Thank you xx
I missed that bird... I was so focused on looking at the houses, all different colours, and thinking what a great watercolour painting, the photo would make ! x
Thank you!! I was very lucky to happen on the bird sitting so nicely in front of those lovely houses! It was a great excuse to take a break and enjoy the scenery. That run is still making me smile today! I love those ones!
🤣 absolutely!! I never usually pay attention to calories but this time I looked at how many were in the choccy nuts and how many were in my run. I worked out how many would balance each other out and it was half. Did I eat half?! Absolutely not. And I don’t even feel bad!! Today I ate nuts actually on the run in the form of peanut butter balls. That was a nice treat!
I read your post after my wife had gone out for a walk. We don't do biscuits in our house, apart from her's (or our youngest's) homemade creations. But I immediately messaged her and asked for a packet. If that had been me shopping, I would have brought ONE packet. But it was her, so she bought 4 different types. And hot cross buns. And Bakewells. 🤣
Oooh, that's my regular running route! It's good to be reminded just how lucky I am to have flat, 5k route, mostly traffic free , and with great views! I'll take a few cobbles to have that.
Currently stuck at home with a bad cold, but hopefully will be out there again soon!
