Hi ju-ju- I am back! I stopped posting as I felt I was putting myself under too much pressure to get to 10K.
Here is a little update, apologies to those on the C25K group who may have seen it already.
A year ago last Saturday I stepped out of the house to begin my first run of the C25K programme.
Exactly one week after finishing the 9 weeks I ran my first parkrun at Conkers in 41 minutes (ok so I did walk up the hilly bit).
I have continued to run 3 times a week, with very few exeptions mainly due to holidays with nowhere suitable to run. Luckily I have usually found somewhere to fit in at least a short run.
I ran around Perth racecourse (the outside, not the course itself and certainly not competing with any horses!)
I have run alongside Loch Linhe near Oban and alongside a loch on the Isle of Lewis.
I ran in the gardens of my hotel in Sicily.
I joined Lanza Road Runners and have the tshirt to prove it.
I went to the Medina parkrun on the Isle of Wight.
And on Saturday I ran my 19th parkrun and got a pb of 35.25. Still not the elusive 35 minutes but in this heat I am very happy with the time.
I ran 7km last Monday and hope to get to 8.04672 (5 miles) before my 60th birthday. I have just under a month, so as long as the weather cools a bit I am fairly hopeful.
After a couple of 4k-ish runs during the week I have just had a brilliant 20th parkrun. It was Pacer Saturday, so I chose the 35 minutes one. Nice and steady all the way to a 34.42 pb finish. I am very pleased with that.
What's my next challenge? I am tail runner at my first Junior parkrun tomorrow as they were short of volunteers. I just hope I can keep up with the youngsters
I saw an appeal on Facebook for volunteers for my local Junior parkrun (due to a conflicting event) so I thought I would give it a go. I was allocated the post of tail runner.
So on a drizzly morning we met at the park. I was advised of the course and given the instructions for my role, much the same as for the adult parkrun - stay at the back, come in last. But with the extra instruction to bring any stray children back to the finish (what if they are nothing to do with parkrun, I thought. Will there be reports of an abduction by a sinister person in a hi-vis jacket?)
So we lined up at the start line for the introduction, welcome to newcomers, presentation of half-marathon, marathon and even an ultra marathon wristbands. Then it was time for the warm-up exercises - that was hard work! But it all built up to a good atmosphere ready for the run.
The whistle went and we set off. First of all walking with a mother and young daughter but they were only there to support older sister so before the end of the first lap they dropped out and I had to leg it to catch up with the next people.
These were a dad with daughter and a dad with son. It has to be said that the children were not really in the mood for running but with encouragement we all made it to the end. Of course there were stops to pick flowers, empty water from shoes, plenty of walking. Towards the end I persuaded the girl to race me to the next arrow and off she set at a great speed. Mindfulof my instructions to stay at the back I had to let her win, although I may have passed dad at one point.
Then we raced the final bit towards the finish line. She won!
I'm on a few days rest before an evening 5k race on Wednesday. Watching the weather forecasts...
Hi everyone hope all is well! Anyhoo didn't run on Tuesday or Wednesday as the weather was too hot and didn't get up early enough. However yesterday and today ran both days 5k albeit Friday was a treadmill run.
This morning I went running and I am much happier when I'm out in the fresh air.So that's 2 down one to go.
Tomorrow going out again and that will be 3 runs this week.
So that's the first aim.
The second is my RFL in two weeks! Here's hoping the weather will be a bit cooler. This morning was breezy but still quite hot!
