I only went out to loosen up... Major Slow has cracked the 10k mark - YEAH!!!

Had a very lazy indulgent weekend so to make amends I thought I'd pop out and do 5k just to get the cogs re-oiled. When I'd done that I still felt I could do a lot more so I carried on and got to an hour and thought "actually I reckon there's some more in me." So, I carried on, knowing that Major Slow doesn't do 10k in an hour but now thinking it was in reach. I'm too embarrassed to say how much longer I ran for but when I stopped I looked at my Stava app and it said I'd done 10.5k - I still don't believe it. It took me 20 minutes to cool down though!

Seven months after C25k W1R1 and three stone lighter, I've actually done a 10k run. I may get promoted to Lieutenant Colonel with a time like that (no, I'm not telling) but hey, I got the distance in. I can work on the time later.

Thanks to everyone in The Communities who's given me support - there's a lot of you! :-)

  • Well done on your first 10k - time is irrelevant, you did the distance and earned your Graduarte10 badge! 🙂

  • Well done you! You did yourself proud, and you have every reason to be proud of it. 10 km is a loooong way. Congratulations!

  • Weirdly that's how I did my first 10k too, went out for a 5k run one day and just kept going. Congratulations on your first 10k and on the 3 stones too :) Speed comes later, but it definitely comes. I was very slow for a long time but now something's changed (2+ yrs post c25k), and I'm loving it :)

  • Thanks Ruth. Canal runner eh? I live quite near the Kennet & Avon Canal. I've never considered running it coz of cyclists, walkers and mooring ropes to contend with. On a morning like this though, I should think it's brilliant!

  • When I first started I went out first thing before anyone could see what I was doing and the canals were deserted at that time of day. I've moved a few miles up the road now, but my original 'patch' was a lesser used stretch along the Lee Navigation south of the Olympic Park. Canals are great for providing endless path with no roads to cross. But some can get quite busy. I bet the Kennet and Avon Canal is quite the tourist attraction :)

  • Yes it is - especially near Devizes where the 29 locks that make up the Caen Hill Flight are. Don't fancy running up there much! I do cycle along the canal though. Trouble is, it's choc-a-bloc with bloody runners! :-) :-) :-)

  • I feel like I saw a programme about those 29 locks... how sad am I even watching canals on tv :)

  • Lol!!!

  • Brilliant run, congrats on that hard earned10k. Dont worry about time taken.......you cant have been any slower than me! But no matter.......we are long distance runners 😀🏃🏻‍♀️🏃🏻.

My last long run, 11k, was also down the canal. A good 'go to' route when building distance👍🏼

  • Time is immaterial. Well done.
