......and in fact I did. I've been training for the women's 10k which is next Sun. Some of you may remember that I had a torn calf muscle a couple of months ago which meant I had to walk most of the 5k run for Stroke. Well the training has been going fairly well this time and the calf has been holding up. But......i went out yesterday and did a parkrun which was great until 4k then my hip just gave out. It had been a bit niggly but then there was a sudden sharp pain which made me stop. I then had to hobble the rest of the way. So.....hence the crying. On the way back to my car (which was about a 15min walk!) the tears came. Partly from pain but I think mostly from frustration. This is my 1st 10k coming up. Everyone has sponsored me. Its for a cause close to my heart.... I just can't believe I've got an injury NOW! I have a swelling over the side of my hip this morning so I'm assuming it's a bursitis. I'm also assuming it's not going to heal anytime soon? Sorry for the ramble but i just had to get it out! 😭😭😭
I could cry........: ......and in fact I did... - Bridge to 10K
I could cry........
Oh Lorna what an absolute pain in the butt (literally, sorry ☹️). You did the right thing to stop but if the pain's that bad then maybe you need to see a doctor or sports physio.
I can't help on how to deal with the injury. You could rest and ice it but it does seem unlikely you'll be able to run next week. I'm so sorry.
If it's any consolation a similar thing happened to me. I had done all my training for my first HM, I was running it for a charity, loads of people had sponsored me and then I got injured and couldn't do it. To say I was gutted was an understatement.
But, everyone understood as running is a high impact sport and every single sponsor said they still wanted their pledge to go ahead. After a while I put it into perspective. It's a race, there will be others, this was just one of those things and I had no control over it.
One of the things we have to learn as runners is how to handle disappointment because there will be times when life doesn't go the way we planned or wanted. But, we're still here.
You'll feel gutted for a while but you will get back to running again.
Keep the faith Lorna, always.
I'm so sorrry. Are you icing it?. Rest up and you never know. Most important thing is to look after yourself. I can imagine how you must feel and it was probably the best thing for you to have a good cry sometimes you just have to let that sort of frustration out. I will keep everything crossed that it heals take care Rfc xxx.
It happens all the time, but when it happens to you, you could go mad with frustration. It seems just the minute you sign up for a race you get injured. Bah!
I hope you'll be back on it soon ☺
Oh no that is so disappointing after all your hard work. I am also running the women's 10k on Sunday, my first event, and have come down with the kids stinky cold. I will be having enforced tapering this week in the hope I will recover well enough to run. Typical these things happen so close to the event and very disappointing too. Are you taking anti-inflammatory pills for it?
Yes I'm taking anti inflammatories and also using ice. Hopefully you'll be better by next week x
So sorry to hear this and can understand the disappointment but it is so important to put your wellbeing first in these cases. Also see it in perspective - worse things have happened at sea and all that - it's a setback but you will get over it and live to see another 10K
Sorry to read this. How is it feeling now?
Oh my!!!! Poor you.. that is simply horrid!
Just take her majesty's advice , ( Irishprincess ).. she absolutely knows what she is talking about... she put me on the right track to getting my calf injury sorted!
It is really disappointing, but, you will heal and you will get back to it and we will be right here beside you..please keep us posted!
