But, after 10 long days on the IC yet again, ( Bronchiosaurus lurgy again)...I was, yesterday, finally feeling fit enough for a small jogette in the sunshine. An added bonus too... I was going to try out my new trail and track shoes.
I researched some time ago and have been noting all posts, reference the shoe to choose, when our lovely Hidden bought some that seemed to fit my bill too. I purchased some...She then had a blip and could not go out in them; So I said I would not try mine until she had been out in hers.. ( are you keeping up with me here..) ?
She then ran in hers and wrote a great report, whereupon I was back on the IC and could not try mine out.. ( Okay I am getting confused now)!
Long story short... ( Impossible, I hear you say), I got out yesterday... Down to my fields and a lovely Irishprincess jogette...
The shoes seem fine...they held me safe and upright down the hill to the village; I was going gently, as Ruth had said the tarmac and hard surface running could be a tad jarring; so I was trying to land lightly which is no bad thing anyway. On the tracks, slightly stony or troughed, and the fields, which were muddy and slippery after the rain on the previous day, I was just fine. The shoes grip wonderfully and I was in no danger of falling.
After a lovely run, not too fast ( slow and steady in fact), I attempted and overcame two grassy field slopes and the shoes got me up to the top...both times Even the seaside-shingle track to the fields was okay... I ran back down the hill to the village... the pavements there are so uneven with broken surfaces and tree roots bursting through, it is like running off road.. and I was fine...I even ran back up the hill and home.. I use the term 'run' very loosely... but just over 4K in 32 mins or so...which I felt, after my last lurgy bout, was okay!!! Plus my breathing, my legs and the rest of me, held out better than I dared hope. Thanks new shoes...
Maybe not conquering the world, but it felt like it
PS
Thanks everyone who advised me and thanks Ruth for letting me copy your choice

Sounds good, OldFloss. Looks good too. And it IS good that you're out there again, observing the world and nature so you can turn it into a poem. 4 km in 32 mins is very respectable after a lurgy, I still get times like that when I'm supposed to be fit, but am not quite awake yet (or just plain knackered). Trail shoes look interesting, although I seem to be able to run on tracks and fields with my normal shoes. But I'm due for some new ones soon, so might be doing some research. (When I say soon I mean in about 3 months time!).
I was okay with the run I always am a bit pleased that I am fitter than I sometimes feel ??? I never thought about track or trail shoes, but I have to say, after the first outing I think I see the point...
Just so good to be running again.. I do get so yukky when I cannot do it xx
I keep thinking about getting a new pair of trail shoes, since mine are a bit small (bought in the early days when I didn't realise how much it would matter!)...
Nice to hear your out and about and off that dreaded IC! You even had the pleasure of road testing your new shoes which sounds as if they were the bees knees, well done Floss glad you enjoyed the run, onwards and upwards from now eh! π
They are pretty good Yes, they are intended to be for off- road and I quote..
" Built with maximum traction, they feature a lightweight synthetic and air mesh upper for ultra-breathable comfort. The Cloudfoam midsole gives you responsive cushioning over off-road obstacles."
So...obviously I am going to be speeding all over the tracks, fields, bushes, sheep and small rabbits !
They are a bit good aren't they Pops? And they got me out and back in one piece.. always a bonus... I shall build up again this week and see where I get to
I am feeling much better compared with a few days ago... not quite so low... :)x
Beyooootiful! Glad you're back out there and having a blast! I really don't understand why the manufacturers bother with pretty colours on shoes to start off with. I suspect that the designers have never been for a run in their lives!
I was on tenterhooks! So glad they've proved to be good shoes for you! 4k in 32 mins is about my rate too until I get the inhalers sorted and have a mad parkrun moment. For me the real sign is no more bruises round my ankles. These shoes give me proper support. Working out well so far. Hope yours grow on you too
They seem really good..been out again this morning and shaved a few mins off my times... Magic shoes clearly.
No ill effects yesterday, knees and ankles fine.. which was good I was pleased with the performance on hard surfaces too.. I did take it slowly and landed as lightly as I could...it is important as I have to get down to the village before I can hit the trails
I wonder how they would perform running along a pebbled beach?
We may be heading to the new little Holiday Home next week.. i may give them a try
Thank you so much for your report and advice... it really helps for a novice like me to know what I should be looking for...Hope you are fit and running well too xxx
Novice here too... hope it's not a case of blinding leading blind! only a freezing 2k early morning run so far this week. But the new trail shoes are still serving me well
