Itβs been 11 days since my last run and since then I had a very stressful move out of my previous house to live with my Dad for a while. Iβm just about settled now, although I still have some unpacking to do as soon as I get a chest of drawers to put my clothes into.
So I decide to get out there this morning and run for 3K to get the βlie of the landβ, which is most definitely not flat like the fens!
Itβs not cold, windy or raining this morning, so a long sleeved top and cooler running tights were just fine.
Off I go and I realise straight away that this run is not going to be easy - my heart rate shot up immediately. I carry on running towards the village and along by the common. I notice Iβm in heart rate Zone 4. I take a right before the road slopes down to the valley, Iβm certainly not up to attempting the hill back up this morning!
The run takes me round the houses and I remember I used to do a paper round on this estate. I run out into the road to avoid some people and I notice that my breathing is not good. Iβm determined to carry on without taking a walking break. I glance at my watch and Iβm still in Zone 4, so I back off a bit on the third km.
I carry on to make 3.5 kilometres and start to think about coffee!
This run was slower usual for me and definitely a struggle, but Iβm pleased I got out there and ran. I had to, really, as I already told Peter44 that I would. Sometimes a gentle push is what you need! ππ

I imagine running anywhere other than the Fens is going to be a shock to the system Jools2020! Itβs flatter than a flat thing where I am but at least we have bends and corners! Iβm glad you got out though and Iβm sure youβll enjoy finding new running routes! Happy running!
I did π. Thanks, Diane. I got all my things ready last night so Iβd have no excuse and could get dressed quietly. Nobody stirred and they were still asleep when I got back.
Haha, nobody got coffee in bed here! Not starting that malarkey. My dad went into βstealth dadβ mode; got dressed and sneaked downstairs without having a shower. I was tidying up my room and didnβt hear him. So he had to have a shower after breakfast... after which he got confused and had another breakfast!
Thanks, Ian. Yes, Iβm settling in OK. Itβs hard not to have my own home. Need to change things around here lol! Itβs going to take a while to organise my brother π¬
Please to hear you're back out running .Hopefully it'll help with all the stress of the move.Looking forward to reading your posts as you explore your new local running routes.
I know the feeling. I Iive in a town with only minor hills. If I go out of town in one direction it's flat all the way to the river but roads are unsafe and tracks a bit crowded with walkers. In all other directions out of town there are steep hills.I have been running around in loops and circles all over town to avoid the steep hills but on Monday I bit the bullet and "ran" the steepest. I used every tool in the box- slow, tiny steps etc. I made it and it was OK! I think you may be pleasantly surprised-if not, I can tell by your posts that you like a running challenge so I'm sure it won't be too long before they just become a normal part of your runs !
Thank you for your encouragement and I hope youβre right! I should at least try. Sooner rather than later. My pace will undoubtedly drop, but Iβll ignore that for now π
Well done Jools2020! So glad youβve got a new, albeit hilly, running route. Soon you wonβt notice them, and when youβre back on the flat, youβll be like a whippet ππββοΈπππΌ.
The good thing about hills is that although they go up - they also go down! I have started tackling hills for a bit of variety and although the climbs are tough its great fun going down the other side. You might surprise yourself with times as well because you can crack on in the downhill bits to make up for the slow segments. Hope you are settled soon - moving is huge - you must be knackered.
Well done Jools2020, youβve had a stressful house move and 11 days without running plus a new route, so thatβs a lot to contend with, well done for getting out there for a run. Itβs a nice you promised Peter44 youβd go too, definitely gives you a push when you do that π
Thanks CP. thatβs certainly the answer, tell someone youβre doing it! Gave me the push I needed. Certainly didnβt want to tell him I hadnβt made it π¬π
Your welcome Julia, first run in 11 days, not always going to be easy, and a new area/route too! ππ but i think you need a bit more training before your ready for our virtual run!!! πββοΈπββοΈ ππ€£π€£

Have missed you, aw so lovey to read about your first run of your new life π₯°π₯°π₯° we are all here to support you.
Glad to see youβre settling in, and found time for yourself to get out and run. Welcome to the world of hills and inclines! Just be careful not to go too fast downhill at first...it can put a big strain on your knees.
