After enjoying the Great South Run so much yesterday, I have decided to take the plunge and have just signed up for the Bath Half in March next year. Having built my distance up over the last few months, it makes sense to keep some of that endurance going and work towards a Half. Feels a bit scary but I just have to give it a go. Who knows, I might even enjoy it?๐ Eek!!
It had to happen...just signed up for my fir... - Bridge to 10K
It had to happen...just signed up for my first HM!๐ฎ
Yeay! Go you!
Thats really good news Sandra and i reckon you WILL enjoy it!
We are going back to tackle Gosport HM on the 20th Nov .Hope the wind won't be gale force this time!!! ๐
Oh, good luck with the Gosport Half Ali! Did you do it last year then? Don't think I could do a HM this year! Will ease up a little bit over the next couple of months but keep some 8/10 mile runs going and then build up again in the New Year. That's the plan anyway. Want to work on my speed a little bit too.๐x
Fantastic, Sandra! We are quite a few going for our first HM next year. Mine isn't until June but I will be following your progress closely and pick up all your learning points
Excellent! That's exactly how I felt, well done you. Now I must keep away from any advertising for any more runs! ๐
It's going to be fun chatting about our progress together and helping each other to get there!
My HM is at the begining of March, I'm having a couple of weeks 'off', (got another 10k at the begining of November), then will start the big plan๐
Go C25K'ers Go! ๐๐
Mx
So exciting and plenty of time to work up to it, wonderfully! Go you x
Thanks Oldfloss. Yes, plenty of time to add on an extra 3 miles, I hope! ๐ฎ Also going to ease up on the very long runs a little and focus on my 5 and 10ks a bit, although I don't want to lose the endurance I've built up either so will have to keep some sort of mileage up too...I am sure all will be fine! x
Exciting!! I keep nearly signing up for the balf half too, it's 75% booked now so ought to just do it! Good luck with the training
Am going to run it with my sister who has done it before and lives quite near. Good luck if you decide to do it. There are a few of us taking on our first HM next year so there will be plenty of chat and support on here!๐
I did the Bath Half (aka Baff Haff) this year and it was great!! Well organized and very well supported. My enduring memory of being overtaken by pantomime camel still haunts me....
I'm excited and scared in equal measures Andy but will happily wave at any pantomime dress-ups that pass me on the day! I love to run on my own but have really enjoyed the big events that I've done to date! They are a completely different experience to my usual lone trail runs and are great for the atmosphere and camaraderie you get on the day! Now, for the hard work - the training! Am up to 10 mile runs so will take it easy and am sure all will be ok by a March!๐ฎ
Andy, I just read your Balf HM report and my reply to it 7 months ago, when I said a Half Marathon was "beyond my wildest dreams at the moment"!! How things change!๐
Dreams do come true!!... Yes, a HM is a long way to run.. but as time goes by you do get used to the longer distances. If you are OK doing a 10mile runs then this HM shouldn't be a problem..
I "popped" out for a quck run last night in the rain and did 6k and didn't really think much of it... whereas this would have been a major underataking/unthinkable when I started!
I'm training for the Weston Super Mare HM in a couple of weeks.. so I'm trying to build up my miles a bit and I also did a 10mile run on Saturday... nice and slow trying to build up the base
Good for you!
Wowsers ! big step there, I bet your heart was in your mouth when you clicked on the "confirm" button. You'll swing it, big style. As for being overtaken, I was overtaken by a gang of champagne bottles with very hairy legs and trainers on my first 10k in January. I was gobsmacked - they were talking and laughing amongst themselves whilst I was happy to still be breathing and not have swallowed my own tongue 3k into the run.
That's fab news Sandra! It'll be well within your speedy ability! This is the one HM I really want to do (Bath is only half an hour from me) and I signed up for it last year only to be stopped in my tracks with my bone bruise โน๏ธ
I wish you joyful, injury free training and am so looking forward to reading all about it ๐ x
I'm sure you can do it Sandra
Woo hoo... you will love it, it's a great well managed event . I found a post I wrote 3 years ago!!! This may be helpful:

I will be doing it too hopefully so I hope to meet up? X
