I did it!

I did the Race for Life 10K last night. I was really nervous beforehand, but it was great. Set off too fast with the herds but slowed down after first K. Was quite emotional as I was running in memory of my mum who lost her battle against cancer. I think she lifted me along the last 2K! It was a 2 lap course so very hard hearing people say nearly there when they were just about to finish the 5K, knowing I had to do it again. Stinky hill that had to be tackled twice. Time was 1 hr 20 mins.

BUT amazing achievement for me and feeling very proud. I did not stop to walk at all and my sponsorship is over £400 now. My little girl was waiting at the end with some good friends, my partner also at the finish line, so it was a great finish. My little girl has also shared at school today how proud she is of her mummy.

Good result and I thoroughly enjoyed my sports massage tonight!

Half marathon next?

Congratulations - a great run and Race for Life is, of course, a great event. I ran one in memory of my Dad, some years ago now, but remember how emotional it was. I am sure she was there with you getting you to that finish line. well done and good luck with your HM plan!

HM? Very brave! I think it would just take too long to train for one. I'm slow so running 16, 17 or 18 km as training would take such a huge chunk out of my day I don't think it would work! Or else running becomes the only thing I ever do (not so good for the family!).

Great stuff. I've never done a double - lap race - I think that would feel crushing, both at the finish line you have to pass, and any ugly bits like the hill. Sounds like you mastered it though, well done.
