London Winter Run?

So very tempted to enter but not at 10k yet and not sure I can get there in time without risking injury. If it was warmer and the nights were lighter I'd be much more confident but at this time of year.......? Come on sensible people, talk me out of it xx

Now look here AM. It's a "FUN RUN" - which means, you can have a laugh walking some of it if you like. SOme peeps go for it and try a PB. I don't bother because I like to run with JuicyJu and chat all the way round the course!!! It's early enough in the morning for you to get home in daylight. You get a medal. Why not try Run 1K / Walk 1K? That way you'll have enough energy to strut your funky stuff!

Haha :D Strut my funky stuff, eh?? sounds tempting. What time does it start? I'm about 1:15 from central London by train :)

Ha Ha EM ! I wouldn't dream of talking you out of it !

Just Do it ! :-) You will be amazing xxx

This is no good, you're meant to be talking me out of it!!! I've got a million reasons for doing it and only 2 for not:

a) I haven't got very long to train

B) I haven't got very long to train

Xxx

Ah , but you could do what Dan says, walk 1k run 1k see ,job done ! :-) xxx

Yes, you're right. Sadly, I've just checked the train times and the first train doesn't arrive in London until 9:05. The race starts at 9:30, so don't think I can physically get there in time for the start. :( Think that puts the kibosh on my little run fantasy :( :(

Aw that is such a shame :-(

Ah no bother EM, there will be others ! :-) xxx

I have the same train issue (as opposed to training), and have decided to stay over the night before as it would be so great to meet up with people and I like the idea of running through London for 10k but not longer. There will be lots of us meeting up and people of different abilities. Dan and Ju can run and talk together, but that would still be too fast for me (even without trying to talk 😉) so I will have to find someone else to run with and I am sure there will be someone at your speed too. 😀 So why not join us for the experience?

I'd really love to do it, and to meet up with the other c25k people but the entry fee, the train tickets AND a hotel for the night make it a very expensive outing!! 😱

I know; I was unsure about this for ages too. I managed to find a reasonably cheap hotel and will look for cheap train fares on the slower line. But yes, it is not like your usual race entry unfortunately.

There's 20% off the entry fee if you enter before midnight tonight..... Just saying :)

Its times like this I wish I had a "normal" job.

There's nothing like a money off voucher code to focus the mind! :)

No way AM, it is such a great event, other time is unimportant , how you do it is unimportant, just come and join the merry gang. And it's reduced entry fee today only so get it done NOW

AncientMum profile image
AncientMumGraduate10 in reply to c4ts

Oooo I'm so tempted :)

Do it AM.

I'll see you there if there's still places left and I'm not working.

AncientMum profile image

I really wish!! As I've just replied to Poppypug, the earliest train on a Sunday from where I live arrives in London at 9:05, so don't think I can get there in time for the start at 9:30. Had talked myself into doing it, so now I'm quite fed up!!!

Don't you just hate trains :(

As an aside, just read your profile & seen your new picture. My first car was a 1979 Allegro. Happy memories. And if you think you are like a 1970s car then you are worth a lot of money - look after yourself ;)

Awww you're too kind :) My first car was a Datsun 120Y. Man I loved that car ❤️❤️ :)

Don't worry about the trains, last year the start was in waves and the last one was way past 10.30am, even if you got entered for an early wave it would not matter that you went in a later one.

Now you're giving me hope again!!

I'd like to do this run too Carrie, I too thought the whole business of getting down there too much of a faff...let me know what you come up with...

Curlygurly2 profile image
Curlygurly2Graduate10 in reply to Curlygurly2

OMG! Just seen how much it costs, added to the train fare I think that's a NO for me...

AncientMum profile image
AncientMumGraduate10 in reply to Curlygurly2

Weird, I just replied to you but it's vanished!! As I was saying before I was so rudely deleted, I reckon we could get a very cheap train ticket if we booked early (basically today) but that would still leave us with the problem of getting to the start in Trafalgar Square before the bloomin' race started. Suspect we're doomed to sit this one out, unless you can think of anything......

Have you looked at coaches?

AncientMum profile image
AncientMumGraduate10 in reply to Curlygurly2

Just looked now but, unless I get a coach at 3am and pay £30 one way, I still can't get there in time, AND the coach is more expensive than the early train! Grrr

I'm doing it!!

AncientMum profile image
AncientMumGraduate10 in reply to Steve_L

Everyone seems to be doing it, apart from me and Curlygurly!!! :( :(

in reply to AncientMum

I'm not doing it either, AM! Too much going on that weekend and all involving a financial outlay of some kind :(

*sigh* there's always another year

Is the Manchester winter run (28th February) any easier for you to get to ? I will be doing the Manchester run ! x

AncientMum profile image
AncientMumGraduate10 in reply to Girlyswot

Sadly not Sweetie, I'm in East Anglia. Any other day of the week but Sunday wouldn't be a problem (apart from the expense) but the trains don't leave that early on Sunday's.

Hope you have a wonderful time in Manchester - there are several c25kers running there, I believe :)
