London Winter Run 2017

I wondered if anyone did the London Winter Run this year and whether they could give me any pointers please?

Also, am I actually kidding myself? I completed the C25K last weekend and would like to keep my running challenge going but is 10K by the beginning of February too much to expect?

I would think it possible, it's just over 3 months away, depends how determined you are.. gradually increasing the distance. Don't try and rush the training though as it will only make it that much harder and put you off, if an injury doesn't do that first.. read this link and digest..😊

Thanks Dave,

That's an excellent link.

I know I need something to aim for and had in mind a 10k about Easter so the first weekend in February is a bit earlier than I was expecting.

It'll certainly stop me from stuffing my face over Christmas!

Ho hum, still pondering!

I believe others on here will be there, perhaps they will come forward now it's been mentioned.. anyway, let us know how you go with the training, good luck!😊

If you type "Winter London Run" into the search bar on the C25K site you'll see lots of posts about it. Many people here have done it and the bling is beautiful!

If you enter your details into a "Myascs" plan it'll give you a training schedule and then you can consider whether to try for it. Good luck!

Thank you, that's really helpful and the training looks do-able!

Bling? I hadn't thought of bling!! Even better!!

Oh I'm sooo close to signing up - how exciting!!

(Daft child, far too many exclamation marks!)

Entry is dear though, at over £30, so you do pay for some nice bling, but make sure you get it!😊

I'm very shallow and only run races for the bling! I find it a great motivator 😊

I did it in 2015 and it was good with the closed roads through the route and quite a few c25kers did it and met up before and after. I got a pretty snowflake medal😆

You should be ok by early Feb. I finished C25k in early May 2015 and did my first 10k at the end of June. I did the Winter Run this year and will be there again in February. There are quite a few people from the facebook group going, so we will arrange a meet up in the morning and afterwards for lunch nearer the time.

Thank you, all advice gratefully received while I spend a few days thinking it through.

I am very tempted - you may have guessed!

I'd agree, you definately have time. I'd love to do this one year too - polar bears, London landmarks and beautiful bling, what's not to love about that? (Although I think it's quite pricey compared to many other 10Ks). Good luck🙂 10k is a really rewarding distance to run.

Sandra, I thought the jigsaw 10k at Dunsfold Park dear enough at £22 for an unaffiliated runner, although for a good cause, so that's OK, but the London winter 10k is steep..

The last two years there have been quite a few of us that have done it. Its a lovely flat run and the atmosphere is really nice. We try and meet up before the event a take a picture and then those who have time meet up afterwards. My only advice is try to get into the right pen. I made the mistake of getting into an earlier pen, I've never run so fast in my life, But on the plus I did get a pb fie 1km, 5km and 10km. I'm not running this year but I'm still hoping to turn up and support armed with my chocolate cake I bring every year. Its a great first time 10km.

Think it would be a good aim for you. I did it this year. It is a good flat course - and great to run round empty roads in central London. Got a lovely medal. It was a cold and wet day so it is worth doing the thing of wearing an extra top that you take off and leave at the start line - I tend to go round the charity shops for something cheap. Something warm and dry for afterwards as well.

Very pleased to hear that it's flat! And I'll never be up for the London Marathon so this is probably my best chance of running in London with the streets closed.

Definitely need a goal over the coming months so I think I'll sign up for it.

Thank you all for your advice (please keep it coming!) and looking forward to actually meeting some of you IRL!!

I would definitely go for it if I was you . Its great to have a goal, it keeps you focused and you've lots of time to train for it .

Its always got great reviews on here as well, and 10k is such a great distance , you will have a ball ! :-) xxx

Thank you all for your input, that's it - I've booked it!

It feels to be right to be 'training' again. I've got 17 weeks to work on it and look where I've come from in the last 17 weeks! I wasn't just 'on' the couch, I was trapped down between the cushions with the fluff and the 5p pieces!

Anyway I'm not sure I'll tell the OH yet but now that I've told all of you lovely lot, I'm committed (or maybe that ought to be 'I should be committed!')

Look forward to hearing who else decides to sign up for it as the weeks go by!

I've also booked this one and very pleased to see your post. I finished C25K a few months ago and had been looking for a new challenge, The Winter Run seemed a perfect way to keep me motivated through the dark and cold weather.

Great to hear a lot of people in here are doing it, I'll search for it now and hopefully meet some people on the day :)

I did it 2 years ago and we did a vid! It's a really easy flat course with some great sights too, but watch out for the scary polar bears!!!

Many thanks for that - it certainly makes it sound do-able. I just hope that the winter months between now and then aren't too bad, but its good to have a goal, isn't it?
