Update on my sister

Many thanks to all of you who responded last time I posted a few days ago.

My sister has had the results of her biopsy back and her cancer is progesterone and oestrogen positive and her2 negative.

Could someone let me know what that means in terms of her treatment going forward.

Last time she had BC she had a lumpectomy, radiotherapy and 5 years taking tamoxifen.

She is having a mastectomy this time because the cancer is in the same breast, but they have suggested she has reconstructive surgery .

Thanks in advance.:)

Her treatment will almost certainly be discussed at the Multi Disciplinary meeting which would take place weekly. This would consist of surgeons oncologists and radiology experts. They know what they are doing and it’s pointless to try and guess what they think in advance. Don’t torture yourself.

I am sorry to hear that your sister has to embark on the full cancer treatment journey. Its tough. I don't know if it's tougher second time round in that I have only done the journey once, you know what's coming when you have been there, but i am not sure if that makes it better or worse. The treatment will be tailored for her to have the best possible outcome. Its so good that she has your support. Sisters are very special and I was so grateful to have a loving sister around to support me. Lots of hugs to you both xx

Thank so much for responding, I'm glad you are well now. Take care .:)

My cancer was exactly the same, I had a mastectomy, Chemo and 5 years on an Aromotase Inhibitor (I took Anastrazole) The Mastectomy was my choice. The HER2 negative means she won't need Herceptin with any chemotherapy she might need. My sister isn't having chemo, but will have radiotherapy. As Happyrosie says, her multidisciplinary team will know what best to advise her as far as treatment to have, as they will also take the grade and stage into consideration.

Hi Poemsgalore

Thank you for responding, I'm glad you are well now.

My sister has to have a mastectomy because the cancer is on the same side as before, and she has already had radiotherapy on that side.

She is feeling much more positive after seeing the consultant as they are talking about reconstruction and they have said her type of cancer is the "best " type to get if you're going to get it, if you can ever say a cancer diagnosis is "good"!

We shall have to be patient now and just wait for the team to come up with her treatment plan. :)

Your sister will get the best treatment and she is so very lucky to have you, but you must also look after yourself. She will worry about those around her and it can be quite stressful for them too. Best wishes to you both.
