Hi there, I'm new to this forum, and to the possibility of high blood pressure. Does anyone know the relationship between serum sodium and salt as a cause of high blood pressure? If sodium is measured in the normal range would that rule out salt as the cause of high blood pressure? I'm guessing it may be more complex than that, but insights gratefully received. Many thanks.

Edit for clarity: if you have a blood test, and the serum sodium level is normal, does that mean that salt is not the cause of your high blood pressure?

I’m not sure I understand the question, Kakey. It’s known that people who are hypertensive must pay particular attention to their salt intake.

I think that the website of the charity Blood Pressure UK might answer your question, though.
