Lots happening as usual, hubby isn't taking the easy route.

Had a tracheotomy Monday morning, on Monday evening he had an emergency and had to have it taken out and the breathing tube put back in.

This afternoon he had the tracheotomy redone this time with the correct size tube. I rang the hospital and his Dr actually answered the phone. He said this seems to have gone well and they've put him on stronger antibiotics, 3rd lot to try to clear his infection.

Tomorrow morning they'll start to reduce the amount of sedation and hopefully in a few days we may see some improvement.

I'm starting to go each way on the bus, which will save a lot of money, but add another 4.5 hours on to the day. I'll see how it goes.

I'm really praying this is the turning point, I don't know what else can be done

Now I'm going to have some vegetable soup and a sandwich. See you next time x 🙏❤️

Thank you for updating us again. I hope these new set of antibiotics do the trick! They still have a plan in place, so that’s good news. It must’ve felt good to speak to his doctor. The doctor sounds positive so I hope that gives you some peace of mind.

I'm just so glad the doctor sounded a little more upbeat. Sometimes infections need a range of antibiotics to knock infections on the head. My brother in law had his tracheostomy tube removed after two weeks when his lungs were fluid free (he had pneumonia and a hospital acquired infection!).

Wishing you both all the love in the world. Keep your strength up for those long travelling days and tell hubby we're all wishing him well.

Lots of love and hugs. Jan xxxx

Glad you have posted, I’ve been looking out for your posts. Let’s hope he turns the corner soon and you have some good news to report. It must be so worrying for you and also very tiring. Look after yourself and try to rest, although I know that’s easier said the done.

Hello :-)

Lovely to see you post even though I am sorry there gas been some ups and downs again your emotions must be all over the place but I hope now things are in place your Husband will slowly start to stable and start his recovery however slow it is and your emotions will settle down which I am sure they will :-)

Infections can take some clearing up but as we say he is in the right place so they can try all these stronger antibiotics and minitor him as they do which is reassuring

That is a big saving you are making on the bus and with all your visits one that I can imagine will help so much :-)

Sounds like you have stolen their menu sandwiches and soup :-)

We are all praying this is the turning point to so many of us following your posts would love nothing more than to see a post soon saying it is :-)

Thank you for taking the time to keep us updated and I will keep looking out for more updates as you have times and news positive news I hope to tell us all :-) x

Good to hear from you, Castleview. We are all hoping that hubby will show sustained improvement from now on. It's good to know that the doctor believes all is going well at last, And that in spite of the unit having to re-do the tracheotomy.

Look after yourself; you have our best wishes, as always 🙏💗

Thanks so much for taking the time to update. Im so glad you have spoken directly to the doctor. I do hope that gave you some comfort? Please , please take care of yourself- your husband will so need you once he turns that corner. And I’m praying he does - and soon. He is in the best place and he is being taken care off. So you do have to think of yourself- difficult though as it is. Thinking of you all

Hi Castleview, thanks for posting, :-)Sorry to hear things aren't quite right yet, but finally thankfully you've seen his doctor that's treating him in person. That was upsetting to hear there'd been emergency and the tracheotomy had to be taken out, can only imagine what that was like but it has been done under this doctors watch this time and I don't know it just feels like it's going to all improve slowly but surely now properly. Another antibiotic hopefully will see this infection cured this time round. Have you found out from them what they think the infection is?

I'm glad you're having something to eat I chuckled when I read the thread about hospital food lol :-D

Take care of you as best as you can and hoping n praying for you you both and that he now improves steady and strong 🤞🙏🫶

he’s taking his time but it sounds like he is slowly moving forward. You must be physically and emotionally exhausted. We were on our knees by week 4. Now, so many years later, it is just one of those difficult bumps we had. I would urge you to rest but it won’t make any difference. Try and take a break on the bus ride and well done for eating!

If you don’t feel like going one day then don’t. Dad swore blind he’d had no visitors. Your support team are clearly all here if you need them. Xx

Hi Castle view almost 2 years to the day my husband had the op for replacement aortic valve and aortic graft. He was so ill before the op they gave him only 50% chance of survival. One surgeon refused to operate but thankfully one amazing man was prepared to try. His heart did not cope well with the op and they brought him back to ICU with his chest still open as they were sure they had to go back in. He then caught infection. He was on the lifesaving ECMO machine and was under sedation 11 days before they took him back to theatre and closed his chest. During which time they had to shock him twice. They then fitted a tracheostomy and started to withdraw sedation. It took another 4 days for him to open his eyes and a week before he spoke to me. But boy what a tale he had to tell!! He'd been to Ireland and America, met my cousins there ???? (I don't have any there) thought I'd swapped the car for a pickup and was driving about in a forklift truck!! 🙄🤔And was having none of it when I tried to persuade him otherwise. 🤣🤣2 years on he's back at work (at 68 🙄) goes hillwalking every weekend and climbed Snowdon last year. I'm telling you this not to make light of things but to let you know how miraculous the recovery can be and how amazing these doctors are. Also I understand every emotion you must be going through. Stay strong and take very great care of yourself. Lots of love to you both .

It all still seems to be moving in the right direction. He's maybe just taking his time. It's a big procedure and it takes time to heal from.

8 months on and I still have quite a bit of discomfort if I forget to take paracetamol.

I don't think I'll be swinging a golf club within the first year!

All these small steps forward are good, and he's in very safe hands, I'm sure of that.

The hospital have different and stronger antibiotics than the GP has. They will monitor him to see if they are working, and as others have said, he couldn’t be anywhere better at the moment. Antibiotics take about 3 days to kick in, so hope you see an improvement then. Once they get him less sedated he will be much better and should slowly begin to be more like himself. It is such a long ordeal for you and we are all thinking of you and rooting for you. We look foward to good news but in the meantime keep strong and take care of yourself. Love and prayers.
