Since I came home from ICU I've suffered many really upsetting side effects.
Yesterday, the psychologist asked me to try Mindfulness 'safe space imagery' at times of distress: I tried it today and it really helped. It's a short audio, which you can memorise if wanted, to use at anytime, anywhere.
I thought of you all and decided to share this as it can be very reassuring at times of distress.
You'll find it online and if you do try it, please let me know if it helped you.

I’ve read a lot about mindfulness in the past & have practiced it. I do try & it does help but when when the bad thoughts takeover they’re so difficult to shift.
Hi Chloe. Thank you for thinking of us. I found nice safe space imagery on Soundcloud by the compassion initiative, it's very interesting. I also managed to find a free download from Talking Heads. I am interested to give this a go over the next few weeks so i'll let everyone know how I got on.
I have been listening to 3 safe space tracks, one from headspace and two on SoundCloud. I find them difficult because the only word i can use to describe them is boring. I know what they're for which doesn't help me feel willing.
But i did find an old cd in the family CD rack called meditainment. 4 tracks which include the use of safe spaces " That I can only know about" with restful but attractive soundtrack and speech. Still it takes all sorts.
Hi Chloe , thought i would post again. I have found 3 tracks on SoundCloud . Cancer Support Scotland, The compassion initiative and Natalie Cooper. I also found a website for an organisation called Helpguide that has several relaxation audios available for download. All interesting.
In the family CD collection i found one under the name of meditainment with four relaxation tracks. Must admit i have been using these on and off for a few years but never quite understood them till now. They are all based around safe places. An Island, a park, a pleasant green field and a safe house on the edge of a valley that few know about.
Now I understand a little more. All based around imaginary safe places.
