Tea stained teeth

Does anybody else suffer with badly stained front teeth? I have only noticed this during the last 6 months. I love my tea but now I'm paranoid especially after a recent visit to the hygienist. I don't know if its something to do with ataxia, because my partner drinks more tea than me and has no problem. I have always used a cup with a lid and a drinking hole, like a Costa coffee cup. I wondered if it might be that, so I now use a straw. Any advice or similar problems?

I certainly do have stained teeth but hadn't considered it an ataxia problem. I thought it was just loss of enamel but interesting.

🙂My husband had veneers added..and now has a ‘Hollywood Smile’…

Certain foods and drinks are usually the culprits for stained teeth…another cause is thinning enamel…your dentist should be able to tell you if this is the cause.

🤔Sometimes using toothpaste containing baking soda can be helpful.

Hi Tallguy. Just a maybe here. Do you know what type of ataxia you have?I do know that with gluten ataxia the enamel in teeth can be affected and look stained, not sure why though.

Your dentist has probably not even heard of this.

I have seen posts where people say GA over the years has ruined their teeth, maybe due to malabsorption of nutrients.

Hi Penelope2, thanks for your reply. I've never heard of that so I found it very interesting. Until 6 months ago it was still "unknown type" but on my most recent visit to see the neurologist it was confirmed at last as sca48. So I don't think gluten ataxia plays a role, but it was a good theory. Thanks very much.

Thank you for sharing that. If you don't mind me asking how and who diagnosed SCA48? Thank you.

It was Paulo Giunti at uclh in London, I've had so many blood tests since I first went there in 2008, but it was always frustrating to be told unknown type. So it's nice to finally know.
