I'm just wondering if there are any particular companies people use. My husband was diagnosed with ILOCA in March, one appointment with the neurologist in May who just basically did more tests. No additional info given. We have booked a few UK cottage holidays but I was wondering about insurance? I've done the usual MoneySupermarket searches and have found some that look OK. Obviously, pre-existing conditions are excluded generally but, as we are still a bit in the dark about the condition, any thoughts as to the chances of ataxia stopping us going away?

A big question I know, so thanks very much in advance :) S

Hi.i asked for a quote a couple of years ago and nobody would give me one on the basis of they did not know enough about ataxia to give me a quote as they could not assess the risk factor properly but its worth just phoning a company up and see what they say and take it from there.

I have Late Onset Idiopathic Cerebellar Ataxia, diagnosed 24 years ago. As most travel insurance is primarily to cover the cost of medical bills and repatriation. For holidays in the United Kingdom it shouldn't be necessary. If you have already booked check to see if there is a cancellation clause. For overseas travel I have found Travel Sure is good although they insisted that CA was classed as hereditary but made a note that in my case it wasn't.

I was diagnosed with progressive cerebellar ataxia tests are ongoing and neurologist strongly feels genetic although unlikely to be treatable as most of them have been negative

I’m just back this morning from a week in Crete fully insured by Goodtogoinsurance.com and a global health card.

I would go it’s worth the effort for both of you and my neurologist was very happy I was getting away.

Hope this helps you 😊
