Morning all

Hope we all ok

Does anyone have a problem to get a life insurance due to Ataxia? I always had one but last year the company I’m with decided to do 5 years review and stopped insuring me. Since then everywhere where I apply for life insurance I’ve been declined due to my EA 🤦🏻‍♀️🤦🏻‍♀️🤦🏻‍♀️. I’m in a desperate need to have one for my boys.

I've had life insurance for many years never asked for any medical checks .

🙂 I have insurance but we pay a bit more than usual because I’ve had cancer as well as having ataxia.

You’ll get good advice by ringing AtaxiaUK.

The office number is 0207 582 1444, open from 9am-5pm, Monday to Friday.

If you require an urgent response, please email office@ataxia.org.uk and we will get back to you as quick as possible.'

Years ago I had a 400% loading on life assurance because of my Ataxia. I could now get over 50's cover without a medical.

I was told they did not know what Ataxia was but it sounded like M.S. which was not insured.

‘No medical’ is not actually true. You have to fill in a questionnaire and if you don’t answer that truthfully (it might have a question about any disability), you are not insured. Also by having the name of your GP/surgery they can know what you have.

This is ridiculous... I’m sure ppl with disability must have some kind of life insurance 😕

I applied for life insurance 3 times and refused each time. I have a benign brain tumour that is stable for past 12 years. Last mri indicated it may be shrinking.

It must be your age being under 50.

Have you tried using a broker? Let them do the work. When I was applying the broker told me as a last resort there was a company in the uk that will insure ANYONE at a heavily weighted premium. They refused me. This was as a result of the tumour though even with positive consultants letters and being inactive for 12 years.

I tried he said he will get back to me in 2 weeks time and never heard from him since ( it was 6 months ago)

Do not do a DNA test to confirm Ataxia. Up to this point you may have one of a 1000 diseases affecting balance. If confirmed then you need to advise a pre existing condition. If you do not reveal you forfeit all payments and claim is cancelled. read the fine print

Hi

I don’t have insurance either, my funeral plan is paid for….. and I opened a savings account and have money transfered into it each month, so my children have money available for any extras, and share the rest!

I’m 78 in a couple of weeks, and living life as best I can.
