Back pain?
I'm in a wheelchair @ have been for the last 6 years & l don't suffer back pain I think it's more to do with your previous job
Hi springtime,
My OT got me what is called a bed lever to help me get in and out of bed. Do ask your GP or Physio for a referral to an IT and get one. It has been really helpful.
wobelyjohn - I'd ask your GP to get an xray done in case there is something else going on. It's not Ataxia.
I have back pain mostly on the left side below my waist. I fell (due to ataxia) about four years ago injuring my back there, and it's never been the same. At times, if I'm on my feet for a long time or if I bend over, my back starts to hurt and burn. I've had exrays and nothing remarkable is found! I use a quad cane when I leave my home, but am able to walk very carefully and slowly in my home without it. Anyway, I attribute my back pain to arthritis (due to my age-60) and ataxia (due to my gait/posture and stiffness)-a bit of both-that's my theory! I do specific exercises for my back and to strengthen my core. I found them online by Googleing "exercises for back". ;o)
I use a wheelchair indoors/outdoors also a rollator.
If I sit too long in the wheelchair I suffer back pain, if i sit in a chair too long I suffer back pain.
The only time I feel really pain free is laying flat on my bed.
I have a hospital bed so getting on/off is no problem - just as long as I have remembered to put the wheelchair brakes on
I have SCA6, legs are just like heavy lumps of wood, right hand/ arm is losing all sense of feeling....
I last saw my Neurologist in November and had an apppointment to go back in the end of August 2015 but I received a letter that it has been brought forward to early March 2015 and to bring family membrr.
Just be my luck to win the lottery same week
It's a funny old world
Hi all
I seem to suffer with my back if I've been walking and gone too far ( 50 yards, maybe less ), and if I do any strenuous activity ( trying to make the bed, getting items from the oven/freezer ) it's so frustrating !!!!!!! is it ataxia related, or am I getting old?
