Back keeps giving way

Hi all,

My ankles, knees and hips have been giving way for many years. Even before I knew that I had Ataxia. When they give way, I now grab something to hold onto to stop from falling, otherwise I'm on the floor. I then use my stick indoors, which I usually try not to use indoors, for my security.

But recently my lower back has started giving way too. This results in lower back pain!!

I assume that I need to strengthen my back muscles to help with this. I have been doing some simple back exercises every morning but the problem is still happening: ( Does anyone else suffer from this and do you have any tips please?

Thanks very much

Love

Hi Alison

I’m doing some clinical Pilates to help me strengthen my core. Your GP should be able to organise it. It’s a bit boring but it I’m walking better. 😘 Carole.

Is clinical Pilates different from normal Pilates?

Hi Alison

I guess it’s the same but i only do exercises which are geared to my balance problems with Ataxia? X

Thanks for your replies Carole. I think actually that I have a nerve that's pinching. This is only happening when I walk without my stick. So for the moment I am walking with my stick all the time. I saw the physiotherapist this morning and he has worked on my back, so hopefully it's been rectified. I do many little exercises, for strength all over including my core muscles. But I have been away for 3:weeks and I didn't do any!!!! This could be the reason!! Anyway back to exercising as much as I can now

Love
