For 3 days been getting shooting, sharp pains in my neck, shoulders, lower back, calfs and ankles. The pain has had me in tears and not been able to sleep so the tiredness is causing me to be very short tempered.

Claire😊 just guessing but it could be nerve pain🤔 Can you make an appointment with your GP? There's a list of medications prescribed for symptoms of ataxia on ataxia.org This can be found by clicking on FACT SHEETS. Print it off and take it with you, not all GPS are familiar with symptoms, it may help with getting pain relief😊xB

Hi Claire

Thank you for your post. The pain you are experiencing sounds very unpleasant and distressing.

You don't say whether you have ataxia or not but I will assume that you do.

As I am sure you will know people with ataxia can experience severe pain but it is nor usually sudden onset and so widespread. In any event if you develop a new symptom and you have a chronic disorder never assume that the symptom is part and parcel of that chronic disorder. There are always other possible causes. Finally, whatever the cause your pain sounds severe and needs to be treated and managed as effectively as possible.

For all these reasons I would advise seeing your GP as early next week as possible.

I hope this is helpful to you.

Best wishes

Harriet

I have ataxia but, fingers crossed, am pain free. I am told there are as many as 100 types of ataxia. I don't know if pain is part of some.

Hope GP is able to help.

I have also been having burning, shooting, pains in the neck, shoulder, and back for years. I have been given lyrica and hydrocortisone. Ice packs are also helpful for the pain. I have SCA.
