Hinim new here not really sure if this is in the right place or not??? Basically I was diagnosed with asthma at 2 yrs old and over the years it has got worse I am on a log of meds, singular, flixotide nebs, aminophilyne, prednisone, spiriva inhaler, ventolin, seretide inhaler, azithromycin antibiotics ( been on for a year) and my asthma is still bad I have recently been in hospital for 10 days with a bad asthma attack and was put in a coma to reat my lungs, luckily I pulled through. On my hospital discharge sheet they have put I have life threatening brittle asthma does this mean that I am last the stage of normal asthma? And does any one else suffer from this? I have so many questions and little answers I'm still high from all the O2 so probably rambling!!!! Just uncertain of my future I suppose I'm only 27 and have 2 young kids I don't really get out of bed on most days as I'm so bad but need to as I don't have any help and this makes me worse

Dear Zozah

I am sorry to hear you have been so poorly, you mention in your post you have so many questions. Why don’t you give us a call here at the helpline and have a chat to one of our specialist nurses and see if they can help, our contact number is 03000 030 555 or we can arrange for someone to call you at a time which is convenient to you. You can private message your number to me.

Kind Regards

Carol

I have had Brittle Asthma, and really before any specialist tells you are this you really should go to a specialist unit to check that every avenue has been explored. The specialist centres that I know of are Southampton, The Heartlands Birmingham and Royal Brompton London. I have done both Heartlands and RBH where now I am current patient. Generally find that respiratory specialists who cover all aspects of respiratory medicine are lacking in the full knowledge and ways to treat the condition. I will say that Brittle Asthma has influenced my life choices and at times made life difficult but at 41 I am not on the scrap heap. Every Brittle Asthmatic is different and just possibly local specialists may well have missed something, I would request a transfer to somewhere like Heartlands or RBH for further investigation, nothing ventured nothing gained. Also Brittle Asthma can change how it effects you, and I have gone from very ill, too much better, to something different again. So don't accept everything you are told and don't be afraid to ask. Feel free to message me if you want to know anything

Since being in hospital I have become very depressed I never really went out much before I went in hospital as my asthma is always bad but now I'm scared to do any thing through the risk of another big attack coming on have also gained a lot of weight through all the drugs I am taking and just turned in to a couch potato!!
