Have just got back from doctors and been told I haven't got copd I've got asthma...

don't know whether that's good or bad.....still getting breathless but apparently my chest xray was clear....but still on my ventolin inhaler.....😊 Jan

It's good.. if it's correct, asthma is reversible. You'll need to give some details of the tests performed for good comment - xray wont differentiate between asthma and mild COPD - needs spirometry and reversibility test. And if asthma, I'd have thought you'd have been put on a preventer inhaler.

I have had 2 spyrometry and reversability tests....the first one was 64% and the nurse told me it was copd.....6 weeks later l had a chest xray and another spyrometry and reversability test.....the chest xray was clear and spyrometry was down to 61%....went to doctors today and he said it's not copd it's asthma....and gave me a repeat prescription for my ventolin....got a review in October.

Request a referral to see a Respiratory Consultant. You would be given a FULL Spirometry test at the hospital along with other tests. This would give you a definite diagnosis.

I too was told I had COPD by 2 Doctors, Specialist said I didn't have COPD and that I had Chronic Bronchitis and Scars on my Lungs, I seen a Nurse not so long back and done another Spirometer (Not a Reverse one) and she said I got Asthma .. I have never known anybody with Asthma with the Symptoms I have .. Its taken them 11 Months to say it's Asthma .. By your Results I would ask to see someone else, if the 61% is your FEV1/FVC

Hi, hope your prognosis is correct it could be worse. Don't want to be all doom and gloom but I had all the tests plus an xray and showed nothing was wrong but,the respiratory nurse was determined I had COPD. (god bless her!!) so she sent me for a cat scan and the results were mild emphysema .To be fair its better that I knew than not otherwise, I would still be smoking and doing more damage. Hope this does not end up being the case for you. Mark.
