Chemotherapy after lung cancer surgery, he only just git through surgery.
Took hubby to see the oncologist , go... - Lung Conditions C...
Took hubby to see the oncologist , got a shock the oncologist wants him to have intense chemotherapy to try and stop the tumour coming back,
Thinking of you both xxx
Canabeans, only your husbands Oncolgist can give you the answer to your query, some patients after undergoing surgery for cancer require no further treatment.others have chemo if the surgeon is not quite sure if he has removed the entirety of the tumour,if it was particularly aggresive in nature or there was some sign it might have spread to the lymph nodes, sometimes even if everything is clear they want to make doubly sure by doing a course of chemo so i would not be to alarmed that this is the route being taken but as i initially said only the Oncolgist can give you their reasons why.Best wishes to you both and i hope that you may be slightly reassured that this is not a rare occurence.
Ski's and Scruff's
The problem is that hes not fit enough and they said it could all be too much for him as they said you need to be very fit ,, we have to think that they are only talking about maybe and the risks of having chemotherapy might outstrip the future benefits, also he seemed in a rush and wasnt giving us a chance we are going back in a couple of weeks after the oncologist speaks to the surgeon at an mdt meeting, so we are on tenderhooks x
The chemotherapy can be adjusted to suit the patients health status at the time and the mdt will discuss your hubbys case and take all this into account.I know that this is a very worrying time for you both but rest assured they will not be doing this just for routine purposes but for the best possible outcome for your hubby and if they thought it might harm him more they would not proceed.
A real dilemma but I would trust that they know what they are doing.
So sorry to hear the requirement for chemo. I pray he will be able to tolerate the treatment and that it will give the expected results.
Very sorry to hear that. It's good though, in a way, that they are being quick to offer treatment. I am sure that the Dr.s wouldn't offer more than your Hubby, can manage and will stop/adjust, if it does get too much for him. My best wishes. D.
On the plus side of the chemo, at least your husband will have some one to talk to at the hospital if the going gets tough. Plus any changes will be spotted quickly no chance of getting out of hand. Takle care both.
