Sorry I can’t help you there Lyn but I can imagine the apprehension you must be feeling. Robotic surgery sounds good to me, better than a human messing about in there. I’m sure some member will come along shortly with more useful information. Best regards Don xx

Sorry that I can't answer your query. If you type bulla in the search box it may come up with some relevant posts. Good luck for your surgery, I hope all goes well.

hi Lynisa48, good that they are operating as you will be much better off. I suspect they will either remove a wedge from the lobe containing the bullae or take the whole lobe out. In either event you will be much better off in all respects. I went through a lobectomy 11 years ago at age 61 and I’m still vertical! Best Wishes, judg69

May the Angels protect and carry you through this surgery. God bless.

It is amazing what medicine can do today - wonderful advances beyond description. You will be okay lynisa48 as being 77 myself I know we are tough.

I have had a bullectomy twice, right lung in 2006 and the left lung this February 2023, both were keyhole surgery carried out in the UK at the University Hospital Southampton.

Whilst on both occasions the bulla had burst causing a pneumothorax, the surgery also involved removing the smaller bulla as well as repairing the tear caused by the bursting bulla, and reattaching the lungs to my rib cage.

I assume that your lung remains inflated, and to that end, I would expect your recovery to be swifter than my own, I was 69 the last time around.

My advice is that, firstly you must keep a positive mental attitude towards the procured and a successful outcome. Secondly is pain control, it is important that following surgery you take the medic's advice on pain control. Next is pulmonary rehabilitation, I have found this to be really important and extremely helpful in getting me back to leading a near normal life as is possible.

we are all different, and we may also suffer from other issues which can complicate matters, but I do believe that the 3 points above will help you going forwards

I wish you well in your upcoming procedure
