Got my usual prescription from Surgery which included Carbosistene which I have used for a while. When I went to pick up the prescription Pharmacist told me the Carbocistene had been cancelled and I had to go to surgery to pick up a prescription for Nacsys which I had never heard off apparently this change was made by a pharmacist technician at the Surgery I can only assume it’s another example of cost cutting
Any info on Nacsys appreciated

I can't help with the medication but it doesn't seem right that you weren't consulted about or informed of the change. It seems almost as if the patient doesn't matter.
That said, I hope that the new medication works as well but be sure to tell your GP if it doesn't. Best wishes.
They are an effervesecent tablet of a different formulation to carbocysteine. Supposed to do the same job. I don’t think that they should have changed to this without at least discussing it with you. I would go and see the GP to check if it is safe for you.
Quite agree you would have thought the Doctor would have discussed it first but trying to get an appointment these days is really difficult I will try them if they don’t work I will ask to see Doctor
The information states that it shouldn’t be taken by anyone with asthma or who has had a stomach ulcer or damaged stomach lining. This may not apply to you but they should have checked with you or told you if it was the GP who had made the decision. I hope you get it sorted.
Sounds like it may be a cheaper substitute, the same happened to me recently when one of my eye drops changed without my GP telling me before hand! Give it a go, but if its not as good as Carbocisteine, speak to your GP, and get it changed back. I spoke to my Chemist about the possibility of Carbocisteine being affected when we leave the EU! She said she didn't think it would be, but I have been secretly hoarding a small batch, by not taking the full dose! I seem OK with it.
Apparently the change was initiated by the local health board who are trying to reduce a defeicit and they are reviewing the cost of a number of medications with carbocistine you take 4 to 6 tablets a day with Nacsys it is only one a day it is supposed to be just as good we will just have to wait and see
I thought medication could only be changed after discussion with the patient. That doesn’t sound right. Could you sort it over the phone to save another visit to the surgery? Hope you get it sorted, we don’t need additional stuff to worry about do we? Good wishes.
