I wrote a lot here about my LVRS in 2012 so search my posts as there is lots on my recovery. Hope your op goes well as it will be worth it.

Hi thanks for your your reply i have read your posts and they are great help

I was just wondering because it is several years since your op. How long did you benefit from it or are you still doing well

I was doing really well but started having problems 2 years ago with a series of chest infections but with more scans etc have now established that I have Broncialatcis in my left lung so the infection was really a series of re infections so now I have to have a minimum 2 week course of antibiotics and straight in with 40mg of prednisone which has stopped the infection cycle. I am slowly getting over all those infections so feel I am sort of on the mend.

I wouldn't be as well as I am if I had not have had the LVRS so I'm still pleased I had it done.

I have had LVRS on both lungs and feel absolutely fine. The worst part of both operations was pain from the drain sites. Recovery times varies according to the person but you will be encouraged to start walking very soon after the operationby the physiotherapists and the more you can do the better

I had LVRS in october 2018 on my upper left lung . OP went very well . Little or no pain after but you have a self administer morphine should you need it in the high dependency unit . Drain removed after 3 days then on to a normal ward. Home 10 days after op . Recovery is how you are . I'm a very positive person and my recovery was very quick. All in all I wish I had the op sooner . Im72 years old and I had mine in The Royal Brompton Hospital in London of which the care is second to none . Good luck and positive thinking is the way forward.

Very best wishes Babs xxxx

Hi thanks for reply

Im having both lungs done and quite worried about my recovery as you explained the pain will be kept on top of so that makes me happy. Also as i am very claustrophobic worried about if There will be a breathing tube in my throat whem i wake up i feel i would panic with this. As i also suffer with panic attacks.

No there will be no breathing tube down your throat but you will have 3 lines coming out the veins in your neck . These distribute meds . They don't hurt at all . I was in high dependency for 3 days and I don't remember any great pain or discomfort . I'm sure you will be fine . I was scared before my op it's only natural. If you need any more help don't hesitate to get in touch . Your surgeon should have a talk with you before the op to see if you have any fears etc.

Continued good luck and let us all know how you get on .

PS . I was recovered inside 5 weeks .

Xxx

An 84 year old friend had a lobe removed because of cancer last year. He recovered very quickly, home in about a week and convalescing for another 3, and back playing the trumpet with our band within 2 months. Rarely much pain, and when he did he had morphine to take.
