Tickly cough in August still not fully cleared

Hi all,

Just need a bit of advice please...I had a sudden weird tickly but very bad cough back in August. Literally came on suddenly with no other symptoms, no fever or flu etc I felt fine just this cough...then went after a week but hadnt fully cleared so went to GP who prescribed antibiotics. After a month or so it still hadnt completely gone. I wasnt coughing as much but had a crackle on my chest so dr prescribed a course of prednisone. Seemed to do the trick. I had blood tests which were clear although showed signs of a previous strep infection. 6 months on i still get this slight rattle on my chest and very slight wheeze when i breathe deeply. Probably could do with having an xray. Anyone else had similar symptoms?

Sounds like an infection which hasn’t cleared. You still have mucus in your lungs thus the rattle..

Ask your GP for sputum test to see what is going on. Also a treatment review would see if your preventer is still effective, often it is down to our inhalers and inhaling techniques

Get a referral to talk it over with a respiratory specialist if you haven’t been to hospital for a while. Physiotherapy helps to shift the mucus if steroids haven’t dried it out.

Thank you so much for your reply. Ive been putting it to the back if my mind but then panicking that I should have seen gp earlier. I should have added that I had a spiratonomy (?) Asthma test and showed no asthma. Dr did suggest sputum test but I dont bring anything up. Certainly not enough to collect. It just worries me that 2 lots of antibiotics hasnt cleared it up. Im usually quite healthy and not prone to chest infections. I hardly ever get colds. This is maybe second time ive ever taken antibiotics ever so.concerns me that they arent working properly. I had an xray back last june (unrelated) but nothing on chest then. Its like being in a slightly damp room and not getting a full lung full but off an on. Really odd.
