Cataract surgery

Good morning Everyone I had my cataract surgery yesterday lunchtime on my good eye. To get that strong again to start with. So I am struggling at present because my other eyehas always not been very good. The surgery went well I was told. I was worried because I have Corneal Dystrophy in my eyes as well. So more chance of infection. The surgery itself took no more than 20 minutes. The worst part was all the very cold water they use to wash the eye out. Just 2 lots of eye drops now 4 and 3 times a day for 4 weeks and then back to the opticians to get the eye checked and then go through all the process again of asking for the other eye to be done. I will acknowledge replies when I can. Have a good weekend everyone. Brian

I’m so glad your cataract surgery went well. I had my right eye done 2 years ago, and need laser surgery on it, planned for August. My left eye is fine.

hi Brian,

I had both my eyes done with perfect results, I choose to read without glasses.

Wear sunglasses to lessen the light, this should make u feel more comfortable.

Best wishes, BERNARDINE 🌹🌹

Glad it went well for you, I have a cataract on my good eye, but not enought for teatment yet I go for monthly injections on my other eye for WMD - So they check my good eye while I am there. You got it over and done with Brian, that good :-)

Bingo88 profile image
Bingo88 in reply toErn007

Yes only took 20 minutes. Worse part was what seemed like freezing cold water to wash my eye out. Brian

I get that Brian when they prick my eye - They wash my eye with iodine also, tomorrow I have my monthly jab.

You too. Already find my glasses are redundant. Distance is better without them and close up I just need reading glasses instead of the magnifying glass at present. Brian

Alberta56 in reply toBingo88

Gosh! that sounds great. Most encouraging. I know I shall need mine done in the distant future, though round here you can only have them done when you're blind as a bat. Good to know the op is not as scary as it sounds. xxx

Bingo88 profile image
Bingo88 in reply toAlberta56

Yes I only felt what felt like freezing cold water a couple of times when they said they were washing my eye out. I was there for 2 hours . But the majority of the time I was just having eye checks and more eye drops. The eye operation took about 15 minutes and recovery was a cup of tea and a biscuit while getting your eye drops and list of instructors. I think they did mine because I have cataracts in both eyes. Brian

Your welcome. I always think if it's so bad and painful they would put you to sleep. Hope you get yours done soon. Try going to your opticians and they referred me via my doctor to a private clinic and it was paid by the NHS. Brian

Alberta56 profile image
Alberta56 in reply toBingo88

My optician has told me that cataracts only get done in this area, Mid Essex, when they are really bad. Unless you go private, of course. They don't bother me too much at the moment except that I've had to give up driving after dark. xxx

Bingo88 in reply toAlberta56

Yes it's still unfair on yourself. Especially if you wanted to go out somewhere of an evening. I was offered private treatment by my opticians but I was prepared to pay private if needed you were talking £2,300 per eye. Brian

Yes it's going well. I made the mistake after the op of still using my glasses. Until I found distance was better without them now. Just reading the phone I need glasses for now until the other eye is done. Brian

Hi, I have had both mine eyes dine now, one in January and one in March, I went to the opticians for my chech up 6 weeks after and had a lot of dark floaters in my eye all over, it was very annoying, my opticians was an older gentleman and he said to take a slice of pineapple every day and in time it will make them fade, still taking one slice every day and they are now faint shadow's, good luck, take care and stay safe.

Ergendl profile image
Ergendl in reply toEgpa

Interesting - and curious. Pineapple has the enzyme bromelaine in which can be useful for digestion (hence serving pineapple with gammon). Perhaps there are other unidentified active natural chemicals that persuade the body to 'tidy up' things like floaters. I shall try it myself as there is nothing more annoying than floaters drifting across my vision when I read a book.

Hope it works for you. Brian

Egpa profile image
Egpa in reply toErgendl

can't remember what it was called, but it seems to be working slowly, as my right eye had a lot of very dark what looked like thick twisted cotten and got in my vision.

Jaybird19 profile image

floaters are a problem. let us know if it works

Bingo88 profile image
Bingo88 in reply toEgpa

I hope your floaters dissappear soon. I have had problems with the odd black spot. But everything seems fine. Got to go back to the opticians in 4 weeks for a check and get referred for the other eye now. Brian

Hi Brian, so pleased the eye surgery went well for you and hoping it heals in no time.

I had both eyes done in 2019 and still delighted with the result.

Go well,

Pauline

Thank you Pauline. So pleased everything went well for you. I am pleased with the results so far. Not sure how much difference there will be when my weak eye is done. But it can't get any worse than it is. Brian

Good luck Brian, take care the time soon passes I am going back to the opticians on Tuesday for my second eye to be assessed for surgery , afraid it might have to be delayed due to the cancer treatment theraphy but with patience we will get there. look after youtself and before long both eyes will be done and dusted . With luck your sight will be clearer today and soon you will be back to tell us all how you faired . But don't strain your eye too soon and be careful you don't get infection. Best wishes for a good recovery.🙂

Thanks so much Katie. I don't need my glasses now. But just using a Magnifying glass until I can get some reading glasses tomorrow. Hope your keeping ok. Brian

I think that you have to wait a few weeks before you either get new glasses or lenses as it takes time for the eye to settle after cataract surgery.

Bingo88 profile image
Bingo88 in reply toclematis5932

Yes I just need to get some reading glasses for the time being and have to go back to the opticians in a month for a check up. And then be referred for the other eye. Before seeing if I need glasses at all now. Brian

best wishes for speedy recovery. My dad had both done same day as he’s bedbound and had trolley ambulance there and back etc. he’s got so many co-morbities but following the regime of drops and eye care he’s healed well as you will too, no regrets . Take care 🦊x

Yes it's surprising what a difference it makes. My glasses are no use at present now. Because my vision is better without them I will just need reading glasses for now until the other eye is done. So pleased it went so well for your father. Brian

this op is such a benefit for what is a minor op . Naturally we all worry about it but the results are so worthwhile . Eyes are so important .

i had both eyes done but had to wait a long time between the two ops, can't remember why now but what I do remember is closing each eye in turn to see shapes and clouds in blue skies that had been just grey before, and still grey when I closed the good eye

. the colours were incredible for a day or two, really strong colours . Purple tarmac and fields that should have been green were something completely different. It was magic.

Yes it is Amazing what a difference it makes. And as I said in a previous reply. Its only around 20 minutes for the operation. Brian

good luck Brian I had my second eye done last Friday after having first eye done in March. Not the best of experiences but painless - I have floaters now in first eye so I’ll try the pineapple trick as someone mentioned. I can see perfectly from a distance but will need glasses for reading

Good morning. Yes I am the same after 1 eye done at present. Glasses not needed. And just need reading glasses until the other eye is done. Hope you get rid of your floaters. They are annoying. Brian
