Hi.

Just joined as its so hard making people understand your problem when they have never had anxiety.I orignally had the symptons about a year ago, Had all the usual for about 2 months then it went away for about 6 months and has now come back again. Its really is the most awful thing i am going through, Constent stress headachs feeling sick all the time or most of the time and dizzy is this really normal because how can you feel like this and not be really ill?? Its stopping me from doing everything?? I'm quite a level headed normal person so how can this happen to me now at age 38?? please help.

Welcome miami

If only we knew why it happens to certain people , I am not sure if we will ever have that answer

The way you are feeling are the symptoms that anxiety brings , I have had them all & was so convinced that it had to be more serious , had most tests done as i wasnt convinced , all came back clear , & now I have started to believe "yes anxiety does make you feel this ill "

I have suffered since I was 16 , & now I am 50 , i dont think this has any age limit

First thing I would do is go & see your GP , explain how you are feeling , there is so much help out there now , write it down & pass it to them if you dont feel you can talk , lots do this

You are normal , I no it doesnt always feel like it , but you are suffering with anxiety , but it will get better , little steps , but it gets better

Look at the blogs on here , i am sure you will relate to alot

Keep posting how you feel , there are lovely people here , they dont judge & do understand

Hi whywhy

Thanks for your reply. Can I ask what tests you have had? Were your physical systems daily? It is just so weird as I don't feel stressed then get ill, I just suddenly get the random blurry vision or sicky feeling which THEN makes me anxious. I have a happy home life and don't have any big stresses in my life but do suffer with compulsions a bit that come which OCD to do with health anxiety - hence when I get a unexplained headache I think brain tumour! Does any of this sound familar?

Hi , every blood test going , went to see a neurologist , thought I had stomach cancer so went & had tube down my throat , even though doc kept saying its anxiety ...guess what all blood tests fine , neurologist said anxiety , tube down throat said making to much acis due to anxiety

Thats why I went to the neurologist , have migraines & I thought the same !!! gp just sent me to shut me up !

Yes I have OCD it is part of anxiety , think it makes us feel we have control over something then it gets out of hand , mine is mainly with germs , washing & people been clean

Have you seen your GP , I have suffered years , going to try councelling again as they say its so much better now than it used to be , I would go & have a chat with them

You are not on your own , keep posting

Love

Hi WhyWhy.

Yes i did see the doc about 8 months ago when it first started bad but just had blood tests which were ok. My ocd is not liking people behind me or touching me which i can't find much about? always think they are going to do somethig to make me ill, Don't ever except drinks or food out incase they have put something in it?? probably all to do with the health anxiety i suppose.

I have a problem with people who are not family coming in my home , as i think they are bringing germs in as I dont no where they have been , cant use public toilets & things , feel condaminated if i sit on a bus or go any where , wash everything when I get in , including wiping the soles of shoes . pull my sleeves over my hands when i am out as i feel touching things will give me germs , the list can go on ,

I am sure this is part of health anxiety & with help we will improve :-)

You are not alone

Hi this is exactly how I'm feeling right now headaches blurred vision and nausea making me not want to leave the house I have a happy life and good job there's just no explanation for it and the headaches I keep thinking is something more serious which is what is making me anxious don't know what to do

Hi Miami,

I have just joined too, I'm 45 and have never suffered from anxiety before but it has hit me now, it has crept up on my blind side and messed me up. I've always been strong minded and level headed and now I feel weird and can't leave my house. I hope coming on here will help us both get through this phase.

Hi Cookiepatch

I appreciate your response, do you feel anxious then get physical symptoms or does it happen the other way around for you? I am blind sided too as although I have always worried when I get ill that it may be something serious I actually have a stress free live and a happy marriage - so weird. hi Miami, reading ur blog as just reminded me of how i felt this time last year. i had it a few times then nothing, i didn't even feel stressed tbf then bang everyday i felt sick, dizzy, light headed, pains in my upper body, and more. i contantly felt detacted from my surroundings, like i was here but in my own world. all i seemed to do is lie on the settee, then be in bed at eight but waking alot in the nite. like u i thought how can i feel like that without being ill, the truth is we are ill. its a mental illness. i went to a n e three times and had ecgs. when i went to my gp, i cryed my eyes up, my words to him was i feel as if im going mad and i don't know y. im 31 now. seeing my gp was the best thing i done, as once he put me on anti depressants, after they kicked in i started feeling more me. a yr on i still get anxious, i have fear, i still get symptoms from time to time but im getting there. its a slow journey but we can all get better. sending u hugs xxx

Hi donaf

Thank you for your reply - yes this sounds very similiar! The only thing is I really don't want to take anti-depressants as I am concerned re the side effects or having to rely on them to feel normal. Do you have OCD or health anxiety normally? Have you tried counselling at all as thought I would give it a go as CBT the doctor suggested when it flared up before was a bit rubbish. xx

I do suffer from both, I was supposed to have had counceling but I didn't go. A lot fine it helpfull thou. I was the same as u I didn't want anti depressants but I'm glad I gave them ago. I'm on them for short to or at least till I'm rid of symptoms. Sumtimes we need them to give us a boost as I call it. Just to help a little while we r stuck in the anxiety cycle. Wa also helped was a book I red called at last a life by paul david or david paul but a lot on here have red a claire weekes book which as helped them xXx

Hi Miami,

I too have just joined this site. I suffered from anxiety/panic attacks about 14 years ago after some very stressful life events. Now again, after a great deal of recent stress, I have started suffering with GAD. I have been having stress headaches every day since September last year. I too convinced myself it must be something seriously wrong with me health wise, however, when I did manage to enjoy a few weeks without stress the headaches stopped. Now since Monday this week I have woke up every morning with anxiety which causes me extreme physical side-effects. I did read somewhere to remember that although they feel uncomfortable (bloody awful in my opinion) it cannot harm you. I didn't click until Tuesday that it actually was anxiety. I thought on Monday I actually had a stomach bug. Try and bear in mind that however bad it feels, your not ill and your feelings may feel awful but it cannot cause you harm. Makes me feel better, albeit slightly. Also, stay positive. I am constantly telling myself that this will pass, and it will, and it will make me/you a stronger person, just as it did 14 years ago.

Hi Miami,

Sometimes you can suffer with stress, I suppose, without having any major stressful event, just by getting through the daily grind of life. Thinking about my headaches, my advice would be, and I know it can be difficult, but is there any way you can take a short holiday in the sun? The sunshine cheered me up no end in December, and I forgot about my headaches, and that put my mind at ease, that if they can come and go so easily like that, there can't be anything seriously wrong. Maybe enough to stop yours. Also try and notice if you tense your neck muscles subconsciously. It definitely causes my headaches, I'm not aware I'm doing it but when I am I then try and relax, really helps. Hope it helps you. x
