Im currently a a very dark place and looking for ways to help me see the light a little. I'm awaiting cbt hopefully sooner rather than later but recently read about mindfulness cbt. I'm desperate for anything and just wondered if anyone had any experience of it and whether it is useful?

Hi flatwhite

Last summer I was in a dark place as well or maybe on another planet, but with Cbt and meds I m much better.I m not cured but I m 10.000 times better then before.cbt helps a lot I suppose it helps more people the others and it depends by the therapist.Give it a go but remember it takes time.be patient and kind to yourself.

Hi , thanks for your reply I really appreciate it. I too was in a dark place last summer and with time, meds and cbt I got through it. However the darkness hit again gradually as the year wore on to the point I'm back but further in that dark place.

I'm still waiting on a cbt course after nearly 3 months and prepared to do what I can to get me it of the place I'm in. If it were down to sheer determination I would have overcome it already but can't see the wood from the trees in any aspect of my life.

I stumbled over a different cbt called mindful cbt and was wondering if that may help. I'm desperate now as feel like my life is one big ticking time bomb waiting to explode and I will lose everything :(

Hi

With my NHS therapist we did normal CBT but he introduced me to mindeful method.Based on breathing exercise, meditation with the aim of be grounded and be in the present.there s a book called Headspace that can give u an idea or can download an app from IPhone,so u can do meditation and breathing wherever u are.It really does relaxes you and helps u to get through a panick attack or anxiety. My personal problem at the moment is the fear of the fear that I have sometimes..but this is another issue.U need to take step by step.Surely it will be good for you and help you to cope better.

I am doing a Cbt course on a web site called living life to the full.its a computerised course with little books each week, my health advisor rings each week to see how it's going and offers advice if needed, u can be refuted to it by a doc or you can join up yourself

Look it up & I hope it helps

Thanks for the suggestion I will take a look. I've got my notes from my previous cbt session but at the moment I'm so low nothing seems to work :( I came across a different cbt called mindfulness cbt but wasn't sure what it involved. Desperate to change my thought processes and how I think about things but struggling to see the light at the moment :(

Our emotion can be the product of our thoughts........ stick in....things will get better..cbt should help change your thinking....my only tip is that I had to wait (nhs), and then maybe once aweek/fortnight/month as time went on.

Your thinking will not change unless you work hard in between appointments, carry out the suggestions......ask for helpful reading material........I found Eckhart Tolle very helpful he wrote "the power of now" and "a new earth".........read yourself confirmations every morning and before bed..... don,t expect a chat once a fortnight to cure you, you have to take it on board and take in what they tell you and practice it in between......xxxxx you get what you work for........I know you,ll do well.....love xx

Hi thanks for your reply I really appreciate it. I too have had to wait again this time for cbt after undergoing it before. I'm not holding out much hope as at the moment nothing seems to shift things. If it were down to sheer will and determination then I would get there, but if it were only that easy I might be okay. The mindfulness cbt was something I had read about but wasn't sure what it involved.

I will look up the tolle material. I agree you def get what you work for and that's what frustrates me soooooo much :(

MBCT is based on meditation and other mindful practices. There are lots of courses all over the country. I have used it myself and with clients and it is now recommended by NICE...you will find a lot of info on the web. Good luck
