Hi, I suffer with anxiety. I was first put on propranolol by my GP because I thought my panic attacks were due to my fast heart beat. This wasn't the cause but the fast heart beat didn't help so propranolol slowed my heart rate down. Yes this worked for a short amount of time. I stopped taking them after a while thinking I didn't really need them. I went on holiday with my friends to spain where my mum lives. All that was going through my head the whole time (out of the blue) was "I hope I'll be ok on holiday, I hope I don't have a panic attack". Due to this, the panic was on my mind all the time, and yes I did suffer from anxiety and panic attacks while I was there. I also had medication which I cannot remember the name of and that helped for a while. Although it was only short term help. When I got back off holiday, I made an appointment with my GP and she decided to put me on Citalopram 10mg because my anxiety and panic disorder had also started making me feel depressed. After a few weeks, my dosage went up to 20mg per day. I found this medication did work but at the same time, I knew I had to believe it'd work. Although, I've been on the 20mg dose for about 2 months now and I'm starting to get my "negative thoughts" back. I think its definitely worth giving them a try but also keep in mind that they don't work straight away, it takes about 2 weeks for them to kick in. Hope you feel better soon xxx
Hiya, Thank you so much for your advice. It was very helpful but I have so much anxiety about taking the tablets that I think its best I don't take them for now.
Hope you feel better soon.
hi PB, i to was prescribed 10 mg citalopram about a year ago, and like you was totally freaked out about taking them because i stupidly read the leaflet inside about the side effect.
i in the end up didn't take them either, but at the time i was given them my anxiety/panic was really high.
i ended up going to CBT therapy for 6 months and done alot of reading self help books and listening to guided relaxation videos on youtube, and this seems to help.
i don't want to take medication either and have my mind dictated by a pill, medication for me is an absolutley last resort.
best wishes
jocky
