Hi sukie03. I have never taken prozac but I know that what you describe are very common side effects. If you are concerned though be sure to raise it with your GP I would as a matter of course anyway I was always taught not to ignore side effects. In the meantime make sure you keep up your fluids and eat 'plain' foods if you can to avoid aggravating your stomach/bowels. There have been a few posts about prozac and side effects lately might be worth just having a scroll through and messaging some of those who have posted for a bit of support.

Hi, I've taken Prozac for three periods. The first one was when I was extremely deeply depressed and Prozac was great. I had no negative side effects, some people thought I was bubbly but I felt free to be me for the first time in my life, life a weight had been lifted off my shoulders - I AM a bubbly person. The second time I had the kind of symptoms you describe, shakiness, increased anxiety and diarrhoea and like you I stopped taking them. The third time I didn't stay on them long enough to find out!

Whether you continue on Prozac is up to you. There are a number of choices - you could talk to your GP about whether a reduced dose, or changing to another gentler anti-depressant may help. Another alternative would be to seek other kinds of support while remaining on Prozac. I am suggesting that as it may be that as your depression is lifting you are beginning to be in touch with feelings the depression was covering up. I know that was the case for me. I felt rage about things that had happened to me and found that once I started telling people how angry I was the anxiety diminished and the depression has not ever been as bad. I don't know whether you feel that might be helpful, but if you do then you could begin by raging on this website, as it's always here when you need it. Sue

I've taken Prozac recently but it didn't help my depression or anxiety, now I'm taking Sertraline (commonly known as Lustral) which hasn't done anything so far either and they've already put me on a pretty high dose, they'll probably try me on something else. I haven't had the side effects you've pointed out but I think the best thing for both of us is to trial other medications until we each find the one for us with minimal side effects that also helps depression.
