first of all if this is new to you go to GP and get checked out. This will reassure you that you are ok. Tell your doc how you feel in full. It sounds like panic attacks,, there are different ways to deal with them. i find doing something to take my focus off them helps a little. Get some lavender essential oil and sprinkle it on your bedding , and make sure your sleep routine is nice and calm, Is there something on your mind that maybe causing this ? hugs xx

Hey. It sounds really scary. I hope you're okay.

I can kind of relate because I used to have a terribly racey heartbeat and lack of breathing about this time last year - but for me it was relate to unwelcome thoughts - which would occur mainly at night. I would either:

Pretend I that was grabbing hold of my thoughts and chucking them out of the window (it sounds strange but it worked for me - like decluttering my anxious mind).

Or I would anything negative into a 'box' in my head. Sometimes it would take a couple of attempts, plus a 'double padlock' but most of the time it would eventually work, and I would feel myself calm down. (Have actually heard that some people write their worries down and put them in a real box- ready to be dealt with in the morning and only then).

My mum used to picture herself putting her negativity in a hot air balloon and watching it 'float' away. Anyway, Now I have pretty much recovered. :)

Although more recently I did experiance a generalised feeling of panick at night. The best advice I can give when that happen is just to lie down, clear your mind, and wait for it to pass- this worked for me and didn't last long. Also, as Sam and Lottie say, it might be reassuring if you checked for underlying causes with your GP. :)

One more thing. Before bed I drink a cup of camomile tea- a fusion of herbs- which was very calming and relaxing. It helped me to unwind before bed. Additionally, Badger sleep balm from Boots Pharmacy is very soothing for me (also a natural herbal remedy). I apply every night, especially basking it over my eyelids - it makes me feel all sleepy and lovely. :)

Good luck with everything and take care. :)

i had similar symptoms early on with my anxiety.my doctor prescribed propranolol, its a beta blocker designed to slow the heart rate and reduce adrenaline flow,as the symptoms you describe are responsive to this drug, apart from minor head aches,i didn't really have any side affects neither, but like the above comments state,if you haven't seen your doctor,do so to put your mind at rest, seems like classic physical anxiety to me though, not dangerous, just not a nice feeling one bit, good luck.
