Sugar levels: How do you know if you have... - Anxiety Support
Sugar levels
I get low blood sugar and that sets off my anxiety big time, I just try and eat regularly, little ad often, and try not to have any major sugar hits - like really sweet cereals or if I am feeling shaky I try not to allow myself a quick fix of something too sugary, try and have slow releasing energy foods like porridge and fruit like bananas and apples. Lx
very true I went and bought machine to check my levels, I thought I had diabetes silly me, but is just the food you eat, how much sugar goes in, any sweets you have.
if by any chance you want to eat soemthing sweet, eat it after your meal so it wouldn't spike your sugar level later on!!
shakes can be caused just by anxiety/panics doesn't mean there is something wrong
smile my dear
God bless you
xx
Yeah could be, I seem to need loads of sugar, I eat a lot of fruit which seems to help. I often feel light headed if I don't have sugar throughout the day which as you say sets off the anxiety. Fruit or plain digestive biscuits seem to help for me!! It's perfectly normal to get the shakes though and yeah it could be down to low sugar, or it could just be a harmless effect of having anxiety. Or both?
Thanks everyone trying to figure it all out have a blessed evening x
I have type 1 diabetes and normally when you are experiencing low sugar levels you will feel shaky, sweaty, dizzy and sometimes like you are in a dream, the only way to find out if you're having low sugar levels is to go see your doctor and he will test your blood sugar and may ask you to monitor them at home for a little while. Having low sugar levels does not mean you may have diabetes but it is a possibility, are you having any other symptoms like frequent urinating, tiredness, increased thirst? If you are then maybe your doctor could test you for diabetes but these symptoms can also be a sign of anxiety so I wouldn't worry too much, but do go to your doctor and ask him to test you for low sugar levels, you may just need to eat more foods that are naturally high in sugar if you don't already but the most likely is that it is down to your anxiety, if your sugar levels go too low you would pass out but you haven't said that you have so i wouldn't worry hope this helps x
Good reply SiobhanF. As a Type 1 myself, I can vouch.
Hypos have different symptoms and they do happen in non-diabetics.
I hope the original poster is going to be okay.
