Cinema a Trigger for Panic Attacks - anyone else?

Hi,

I have only had panic attacks either when hangover or my biggest one was in a cinema. Now everytime I go to the cinema I have to self sooth to prevent another one. Has anybody else experienced this or know why a cinema might be a trigger?

i know you think its the cinema that is the couse but its not. i get panicy when i go to the cinema but thats becouse of the crowds of people not the cinema. you must go to the cimena and prove this to yourself!!!!! honest. your mind is telling you that becouse you had one there before you will again which stright away puts you on edge. read cbt workbook for dummies and it will make more sence than me. i avoided the supermarket for so long and now i go in there. im not sure why you have a panic attack when your hung over? maybe its just generally feeling unwell that triggers it?

I have this; mine started when we'd just gone through a second miscarriage and then I went to see a film.....not realising it had a prenatal scan followed by miscarriage as one of its themes. Now every time I go into a cinema I start feeling nervous and worry about panicking etc. It's not that I think something is going to come on that will upset me, just that I think I have associated negative feelings with the cinema. Hope this helps?

Thanks guys, I am normally fine in crowds. I agree that I think it is just I have associated negative feelings with the cinema. Hopefully a few more trips and I will feel better about it.

You aren’t alone I’m currently dealing with the same issue because I had a couple of anxiety attacks in the theater. The ones that followed after the first one was mainly because i kept thinking about the first time haha. You will be okay.
