15 mg mirtazapine

Hi.I'm currently on 15mg of mirtazapine for my anxiety and obtrusive thoughts.i didn't have depression before mirtazapine

My sleep is better. My anxiety is better . But I feel so depressed and low moods. I still get obtrusive thoughts.

My GP wants me to go onto 30mg.

I'm worried it will make me even more depressed.

Does anyone have any experience of moving to 30mg mirtazapine and if it helped with depression.

Thank you

Hi, no experience with mirtazapine but I tried 5mg of melatonin for sleep and the next morning I had intense feelings of depression that lasted for a couple of hours then vanished. I never touched the stuff again. Is depression a possible side effect of mirtazapine? The genes for anxiety and depression are apparently identical so it is worth telling your doctor exactly what you are going through and when it started etc. Wishing you peace and health.

Yep. I think mirtazapine can cause depression. I told my GP and he mentioned it is possible side effect.

Thank you for taking the time to reply

I think it could just be the drowsiness. If you've gone from little sleep to sleeping through it could be a feeling of tiredness/motionless/meh. I would give it a good couple of weeks for them to kick in. How long have you been them on them for?

Hi. I've been on them for 4 months now. Initially my sleep was really good. Nowadays it's not as good. And I wake up anxious

You can either up it or split it. I've been on 15mg for 7 years. I've only ever increased to 22.5mg. Dr's won't tell you to split it, but what I have done before is take my 15mg on a night then take a quarter as soon as I wake up. I only do this when my anxiety creeps back in and I wake with morning anxiety. It curbs it, and it stops it in it's tracks after a cou0le of days of doing this. I stick to this method for a week or 2 then drop the morning dose. I only really do this once or twice a year. I hope this helps. You can definitely speak to your Dr about it. It's unconventional to split doses but it works for me
