Belittling your Anxiety

I use to fear getting my anxiety attacks! Then something I read that has helped me over the years has been to belittle my Anxiety. Now, I have not fixed my problem but it did help. I used to hide that I had anxiety or intrusive thinking from everyone! Then I read a book that taught me to not fear it or think like I was going crazy. I started talking about it to others and treating it as if I just had a cold or something. I started saying to others things like; oh I’m having a high anxiety day today, darn I was really hoping to…whatever! Or Ugg these damn intrusive thoughts are on a roll today!, and things like that. When before it was I can’t go or I don’t feel well or even nothing at all just avoided and isolated from everybody. Like I said I am not totally Anxiety free but it has helped a lot to acknowledge it to others and not suffer in silence . Hope this helps others.

A huge part in overcoming anxiety is to accept the symptoms and not giving them the respect that keeps them hanging around. With the attitude you have, recovery is just a matter of time. ❤️

I like it! I often say to myself “less importance” when an intrusive thought pops up and it helps.
