I'd love to hear success stories about taking Buspirone for anxiety

I have had different degrees of anxiety my whole life. This has ranged from constant worry to full blown panic attacks for days on end. I was prescribed Celexa some years ago and didn't do well on it. I've tried to live my life the best I could while dealing with this disorder. Recently I had a major health scare...it's not over yet...and the extreme anxiety became unbearable. My new primary care doc prescribed a short script for Zanax and also started me on Buspirone. I've only taken the zanax at night. I'm on only 5mg of Buspirone twice a day...about 9 am and again around 4 pm. without food. I also take low dose Atenolol for high BP and heart palps. Everything I've read says it takes up to 4 weeks for Buspirone to really kick in. I can say that after a week, I am feeling a bit better. Unfortunately, I still can't get much sleep and mornings are the worst. I'd love to think there's a med out there with low side effects that could help me have less anxiety. Has anyone had success on Buspirone?

I’ve personally never been on Buspirone so I can’t probably give you any of those answers. I can say that these medications are very safe and have been tested. I’m so glad you are noticing you feel better. I would just like to encourage you to give it time and continue to improve. Address any issues or concerns yoy have with your Dr. and enjoy your life. It’s so easy to self defeat and I hope you’re able to continue to improve and live your best life. Sorry I couldn’t give you more information about the medication. I wish I had your bravery. Taking the script is the first step and you’ve done that. So far I have not been able to take that step for myself so congratulations to you.

Hi!I wanted to let you know that Buspar was a miracle for me. Before that I had tried other meds like Lexapro and zoloft which were horrible and not a good fit.

I encourage you to hang in there with it. I also had a very severe benzo dependency and went through a very unpleasant withdrawal. Buspar was a God send! You can work with your physician on dosages that help to decrease the anxiety.

For me, it is a life changer.

Best of luck!

Thank you so much for your positive reply. My plan is to stay on it and hopefully I will also be able to say it is a "God send"! Do you mind telling me how you take yours...with food/without food?...twice/three times a day?...the prescription strength you found to work? I know everyone is different, I just need a bit of advice. Thank you!

I'm on a very low dose. 5mg twice daily. I don't find any difference taking with or without food. Dosage can be adjusted higher and up to 3 times a day.I will tell you that it doesn't get rid of the anxiety completely all the time but does absolutely make it more manageable. I no longer have the severe debilitating panic attacks. Stick with it, it's been worth it for me.

Thank you. So glad to hear. I'm certainly hoping that in the very stressful times, the days of feeling panic and totally out of control subside. After that, just not being worried about EVERYTHING starts to go away.
