I'm not able to eat: I have suffered from... - Anxiety Support
I'm not able to eat
perhaps you cannot eat because you find it difficult to swallow. Anxiety can cause this. You might want to speak to your medical doctor or a psychiatrist about this as it can be very upsetting.
It might be worth talking to your Dr and trying a low dose antidepressant to help you and maybe a bit of therapy too. Catch it in the bud so it doesnt get worse. Not saying it will but i am a great believer in early or preventative treatment.
I can relate to what you are saying as I am the same. Just built this way, the opposite of a 'comfort eater' - some of the anxiety possibly passed on from parents. There is an 'anxiety gene'.
When my stomach closes down, I make smoothies, eg. banana, apple, strawberries, kefir, yoghurt - or soup. As you've had this lifelong, I'm sure you've found certain ways to eat to keep yourself going.
Often I have grated ginger, lemon and honey to kick-start the digestive system.
It's all about calming the nervous system and the flight / fight response.
In my experience and opinion, anti-depressants are something to be avoided and can make things worse due to side effects etc etc.
I prefer to take herbal remedies - would you consider consulting a qualified herbalist - to trial certain herbs, eg. St John's Wort, Rhodiola. There is a whole world of herbs out there that could help your health.
I see that you are 53 - what you are experiencing now could be hormonal / menopause related too - the loss of the hormone profile can have great impact on the nervous system, particularly lowered estrogen.
The hideous situation that has been going on in the world - and continues to go on - for the last 2.5 years has increased anxiety/stress for all.
Yoga and breathing exercises can help to calm the mind - and opening the mind to spirituality and connectivity to nature. Swimming is good too, particularly in the sea.
Wishing you Strength & Courage.
It’s A Terrible Feeling To Have.
I completely understand that feeling. Wish I had something encouraging to tell you. My therapist recommends small bites and protein shakes to get some nourishment
