Recommendation for Psychiatrist in Maryland

I've been looking for a psychiatrist for my husband. in Maryland and/or a recommendation of an online doctor that can write prescriptions in Maryland... of the doctors I have found, they are not accepting new patients.

My husband is going through Benzo withdrawal and having a difficult time of it. It seems most medical (and psychiatrist) doctors that I have spoken to are not open to tapering off Benzos which I do not understand because it is dangerous to go cold turkey. I have read to avoid rehab organizations because they are also unwilling to do a slow taper.

He talked to his primary care physician who did not want to deal with it and recommended he find a psychiatrist. His past psychiatrist took a a new job and never transitioned her patients to someone else.

At this point, my husband just wants to get off Benzos and reclaim his life again.

Any recommendation is appreciated it.

Thank you!

DC_Scholar Having gotten off years of benzos myself, I know how importantit is to have a psychiatrist follow you with the weaning.

The side effects of withdrawal are horrendous enough w/o not having supervision and

support.

I understand how many of the doctors are backlogged right now and yet this is

something that your husband needs support ASAP.

Have you tried Doctor On Demand? It was started by Dr Phil & his son. They have

professional counseling on line. I'm not sure they would be able to do weaning but

it's worth a try. Good Luck. I wish you well :) xx

Also try Teledoc. You speak to a doctor by phone. They have psychiatrists available and I have found them to be good if you cannot reach your own doctor or don't have one. You sign in over the computer, but there is a very helpful. help line if you have any problems.

Hello, I was on benzo's for a while and didn't really have much trouble getting off of them but I did a very slow taper and didn't listen to my med prescriber about it. Most of them have no idea how difficult it can be for some people and if they recommend tapering it is usually way faster than what is best for most people.

I recommend you check out the website of Dr. Jennifer Leigh for good information about it: benzowithdrawalhelp.com/. there is also another good website to check out with lots of info: benzobuddies.org/
