pain in chest?? Help anxiety or gas?

I have been experiencing weird chest pains and I don’t know if its normal to have them with gas? I have been having trouble burping and even passing wind (sorry for tmi) and I think there’s a connection. They don’t hurt too bad but it is quite uncomfortable it happens mainly near my breastbone but I get them on the right and left side as-well. Also my bones are cracking like crazy.

I thought it was related to heart at first but hopefully I don’t think it is. Too scared to go a&e or doctors with this pandemic. Please any advice? Thank you.

Sounds like reflux. Run it by your gp. I had extreme burping and had some tests. Diagnoses reflux. Burning chest is also a symptom .

Yes after every sip of water I feel the need to burp and I literally strain to to do it. Not fun :(

Me to! I still do after 2 years. Every minute I’m burping. It’s horrible! Strange because I’m starting to get a feeling of fullness, even after eating a tiny amount of food! I think my gp and consultant have misdiagnosed me! Definitely got something to do with bacteria? What medication are you on (if you don’t mind me asking?) and has your symptoms gone?

I’m not really on medication I had a video call consultation with doctor and he prescribed me gas tablets. But I may have to ring up again because I don’t think they are working. It’s awful I feel like every time I drink water I need to burp it feels stuck. Also sometimes I get a bit of sick come up

Problem with gp they have 7 minutes to diagnose you. I believe they can get it wrong. I had to keep pushing them to resolve my symptoms (still ongoing). Maybe it’s still down to stress? I read that stress can irritated IBS ? I do feel for you. I sometimes have sick while burping . I’ve been through some traumatic events and that’s when it all started. I have not tried it personally but some people swear by it, Apple cider?

I have just ordered apple cider hoping it works🤞🏽

I was on omeprazole. I had endoscopy and showed mild oesophyjitis. That's bee n over six months ago. I think anxiety about it made it much worse because after I had tests symptoms went within a few weeks. So not sure if it was the medication or me calming down. Always get things checked out if in doubt.

How long did you have symptoms before you had an endoscopy? It could be down to stress, feeling anxious about your symptoms? It’s not a nice thing to go through.

I had endoscopy after two months. My gp referred me for Jan as she wasnt particularly concerned but I got so anxious I went privately after 8 weeks. I was very stressed as I was travelling back and forward to Ireland to see my sister with terminal cancer and I just needed a definite diagnosis. Still not sure if was down to stress but a couple of weeks later symptoms just vanished. Also may have been the omeprazole just started to work. I think you should always go back to gp if your concerned even if just for reassurance. Stress and anxiety can mimic more serious health issues and vis versa so if in doubt have it checked out. ..

Sorry to hear about your sister. That’s must have been stressful. GP have said they have done all tests. I waited a few months and only then I pushed hard to get an appointment to get camera checked. If you had gone down the nhs you be waiting for too long. Did your private doctor confirm your h-pylori? It can cause reflux symptoms, which is what I think I got?

I think I should go private. Thank you 😊

I had the pylori test a year previous because I was having lots of burping. The test is done by providing a stool sample. So by the time I had the endoscopy the h pylori would have been gone as it wasnt mentioned by consultant. Going private was expensive but for peace of mind I went ahead. Worrying just makes things worse. If you live in England and if you have a good understanding gp she may put you on the urgent two week wait list. However with the virus maybe not so. Worry was causing so much anxiety for me. I'm a worrier by nature. I think if symptoms are ongoing and meds dont work it's important for physical and mental well being to have some tests. I know for me the crazy burping constantly which made me feel I was choking was too much. Wasnt like your average burp after a gassy drink. I still not sure if the burping was made a lot worse by the stress of it but I'm happy to say it's gone.

Now my symptoms are a lot worse since gp and consultant put me on antidepressants (Amitriptyline) because I’ve had all the tests done they won’t do any more. I can’t hardly eat and get full very easily not to mention I’ve had on and off blood in my stoll . And my burping is constant 24/7. It’s weird they all my tests have come up clear and yet I’ve still got these symptoms. Doesn’t seem like stress to me causing it. Thank you

Stress can cause all sorts of physical issues. I think when your not convinced the problem is stress related it builds and builds. Horrible place to be as I have experienced this. If you have had all testsdo try to distract yourself and remind yourself to stay calm. Hopfully when fear subsides the symptoms should too

Feel for you.

I do understand what you are saying. Well, I lost my dad 3 years ago and also my job, and a good friend I grow up with - all in a space of four months! It took a toll on me and only just got used to the idea that I no longer have my dad here. I’ve lost my confidence to pursue new job but I keep going with job interviews. My dad was the one i spoke too. In fact my symptoms all started round the time all this happened. I normally just accept it and get on. Thanks a lot for your reply’s.

Ah lots of loss in a short space of time. So sorry to hear this. Yeah I do understand. My sister passed in Ictober. My closest friend has terminal cancer and my brother in law passed last month after short battle with cancer. It plays its toll on you. Grief can manifest itself in physical symptoms and sneak up on you when you least expect it. Take care of yourself x

Any blood in stool should be checked out as no way that can be stress. However could be piles or a tear which are both common if your straining or diet is poor and constipated.

I started Amitriptyline and it’s caused me really bad constipation! I’ve spoken with doctor . Fingers crossed.

Oh forgot to mention I tested positive for h_ pylori bacteria in stomach and put on antibiotics high dose to eradicate it.

Hi there, I agree that it could be acid reflux or IBS? It definitely sounds similar to what I’m going through. I have acid reflux symptoms but it’s not associated with acid reflux per say; according to the doctors and consultant they believe it’s down to stress?! I’ve had most of tests and results were clear of acid reflux issues. I’m now on Amitriptyline, which is okay. Still got symptoms after four months. Definitely talk with your GP or a holistic specialist? Also, take a look into the official IBS website for support and details.

Thank you I will do. I have been taking gas tablets but not sure if they’re helping.

I’m going to try Alflorex- someone recommended this to me, especially if you are suffering with IBS .

I would phone surgery and describe your symptoms. Drs will be able to advise you and do a prescription. Also here in UK zgps only allow one patient at a time into the surgery so you wont have sit in waiting room with other patients x
