Anxiety - coping mechanisms

Hey guys, new to this place but not to anxiety ha!

I used to struggle really bad with anxiety/depression. Still do to a certain degree but not bad enough for medication any more thank goodness. Got much better life was normal but recently had some heart palpitations that lasted for almost 30 seconds, that was due to stress! and over exercising at work! really shock me up, had me on my one's at work, and my anxiety has started to peep its head around that corner again. Had a couple of panic attacks at work and really not wanting to slide downwards again. Any advice and or tips or coping? I usually concentrate on my breathing or have a ciggeret as I find it slows my breathing which really helps.

What do you all think?

Hi Mrgump :)

Doing the breathing thing is fine, having a cigarette not so good. :(

Palpitations can very well come from stress as well as smoking, since

smoking robs the body of oxygen. Dehydration can also play a part

in palps. The more fluid we have in our body, the better the blood flows.

Once panic rears it's ugly head, it can cause rebound fear of fear or the "what ifs".

When at home, give yourself some "me time". Just 10 minutes in a quiet place to

bring down your stress by Meditating and Deep Breathing. This will calm both

your Mind and your Body. As you practice this on a daily basis, when you do get

stressed out at work, you will be able to turn to your breathing for a few minutes

which can help reduce the palps. Making sure you have water throughout the day

as well.

You said you were doing better for a while. Anxiety will always find a way to come

back when you are most vulnerable. Breathe your way through the fear and try not

to allow it to take control. I use YouTube as my "go to" in finding meditation videos

that can help you relax. One of them is by Dr. Claire Weekes "Hope & Help for Your Nerves" Breathe my friend, it is the key. Namaste :) xx
