Does anybody get shoulder pain from their anxiety?

Yes! Just today I was wondering this. My doctor told me it’s because I carry all my stress in my shoulders but sometimes the pain is so alarming
Yes! I’ve been worrying about this for a couple of weeks. Just sat here thinking about it when your post appeared!
I get random pains in my neck and shoulders which seem to be anxiety/stress related although, of course, I worry they are not!
OMG!! Yes! I have 3 different ways of my body telling me I am being anxious: 1 - pain in A shoulder - it’s not usually both - just one! Is that what you notice? It struck me as strange. But I realized its a way to tell me its not from over exertion. 2- stomach (common) 3 - back (even more common?) . Would love to hear if your shoulder pains are similar - one as opposed to 2?
Yes it’s always in one, sometimes they go from different shoulders.
That was the clue for me. Yes Agora1 I can totally relate to the muscle tension you are describing. But for me the sign that shoulder pain was my brain throwing my stress at a pressure point in my body was that it was a sharp knife like pain - different than the way I have muscle pain. It’s similar DoggieLoverbon to the randomness you are describing.
Hi DoggieLover, the shoulders and neck are the most common place
where we hold all our tension from stress. When this happens find a
quiet place and breathe as you bring your shoulders down away from
your ears. When living in fear we hold our shoulders up as if we are
ready to pounce at any moment. The muscles and ligaments get tight
causing discomfort. Breathe in and out slowly and feel better xx
Could that explain my recent back pain and neck pain? Because I’m so tense. And it’s hard to fall asleep at night because falling asleep is what scares me the most. So I usually sleep like a kicking jacuzzi in the bed and everything.
It can explain the pain by all means. I use to be as wound up as
a top during the day and at night would sleep in a fetal position.
When waking up there wasn't one part of me that didn't hurt. xx
Agora1 i love how you say “used to.” How did you stop it. Was it the breathing you are describing? Something else too?
Sunrize, it was the beginning of the end of suffering unnecessarily
when I started to accept Anxiety for what it was. A lie told by our
mind. The more focused we stayed on negative thoughts, the more
the thought grew. I also got into Meditation of different kinds.
From Mindfulness, Self Hypnosis, Relaxation, Visualization and on and on.
I found that proper breathing could eliminate most of the symptoms experienced
by anxiety. I had the "key" the whole time but didn't know it.
Trying different outlets using YouTube as my teaching tool helped me and
continues to help me learn and grow. Anxiety is a game that is meant to win. xx
