Hey everyone! I’m a newbie here. I just turned 20 and I have been struggling with health anxiety for more than 4 years.
My grandma who i was not very close to pass away from lung cancer within a couple of days. It was the first time i lost someone in my family. I felt numb.
I was a part time model, one week ago i felt a little dizziness and headache after a photoshoot. I went to doctor next day he said it was because of not enough of sleep and that I didn’t have any food except a slice of bread at 2pm that day till 8pm. On the following Monday, i went to another doctor and he said i might got the cold. He said blood test is not necessary. Four days later, i still have a little bit of headache, especially when i think about it. My neck and shoulders muscles are tight. I was searching up online and i fear that i might have a brain tumour. I want to get a scan but my family said it’s not necessary.
Backstory: after my grandma’s death, i feel burning pain in my chest, and i went away after a few doctor visits and a good cry.
Last summer, i discovered that one side of my lower stomach is bigger than the other side, i went to four doctor and a ultrasound to find out that nothing is wrong.

The funny thing about health anxiety is anxiety itself will give you symptoms. I have diagnosed myself with so many things and turns out I’m perfectly fine. Currently convinced I’m going to die during my surgery on Monday. Health anxiety is no joke and shouldn’t be taken lightly.
I have dealt with it for years. It’s really hard and a lot of the times I get frustrated and start feeling defeated. I have been seeing a therapist for a few months now and it has helped tremendously but I still have bouts of anxiety about my health. I definitely recommend seeing someone if you are up for it.
Hello kimber1y. I’m so sorry to hear about your loss. First and foremost, make sure you’re eating enough. Your gut has such an impact on the rest of your body and when you’re not giving it the nutrients it needs or eating junk food all the time, then it will affect the rest of your body. I would recommend maybe taking a probiotic and eating more as well. If you’re finding that you’re dizzy or lightheaded, drink or eat something with high salt content. Our blood pressure is very dependent on our salt intake so when we aren’t eating enough salt, it drops and can cause that lightheadedness. Also try to up your sugar intake by drinking a small juice or something each day. Sugar is good for the body when eaten responsibly. As for neck and shoulder tightness, if possible get a massage or see a chiropractor because they may be tight due to the stress you’re feeling. Try not to google your symptoms and remember that certain things like brain tumors are rare in people our age (I’m also 20!). If the pain doesn’t go away for a good while after treatment, your doctor will look into those more serious issues so just remember that.
Hi, when I was younger I was unaware of available “grief group” resources for dealing with grief. I later learned (in the states) many different types of grief groups are available. My Stepmother recommended “Grief Share” to me when I had a family loss so I ended up going to it. There is often very little charge if any for many of these groups (in the U.S.).
The reason I mention the grief groups are if you attend one you will learn that you are struggling with the same things other grieving people are. Although you may not have felt close to your grandma, other family members may be more affected & that may be indirectly affecting you more than you think. In fact fairly recently I found myself grieving about my own grandparents whom I hardly knew & they died ages ago.
I attended Grief Share twice & a couple of other grief groups over the years. I learned enough to recognize so many of the problems you mentioned as part of the grieving process. You will learn a lot if you join a grief support group. It will save you time & expense in the long run, I guarantee it!
